None of this would have been an issue if they'd just enabled Bluetooth headsets like any other god damn tablet device.

An extra Bluetooth chip costs what, 50p?

I was set to pull the trigger on this- holiday next week and some split screen Salmon Run with my daughter would have been brilliant... oh

To be fair they have never at any point mentioned or shown in the many promo videos that split screen was a game feature.

Yeah, I wonder if they didn't include it due to performance reasons, or if they didn't have enough time or decided against it as it'd be horrible in handheld mode.

I can't say definitely no, but there must be a realisation that online firms sometimes break release dates. The bans used to happen when people were playing stuff weeks in advance that was obviously pirated/nicked.

Imagine the uproar if they dropped the banhammer on the hundreds (thousands?) of legitimate customers who got their copy early and didn't know any better.

I wouldn't think twice about firing it up if my copy came early.

Did the first 2 campaign levels and one multiplayer game. Won the mp game by a mile and got 15 kills. Was on port mackerel which seems a bit improved, slightly wider and with more verticality than before.

Switched to campaign as matchmaking was taking a while (presumably not that many online at lunch a day before launch, and work's wifi is a bit dodgy). The two campaign stages are introducing elements from the first game at a much faster rate - sponges, cleaner bots, etc. Guessing it's getting through that stuff as soon as possible then new stuff from there on. Got both hidden collectables in both though.

In short it's splatoon, yay! Already feels like the new abilities will make the mp a bit more varied, too.
