Registered 8 years agoI just don't get this film. Is there any interest at all in a new Terminator film? The old people like me have no interest and the youngsters barely even know what it is -

Registered 13 years ago@creepiest-lizard I would have said no after genesis. but as the original writer and director James Cameron is involved. I have a lot of hope. Especially as terminator 3, salvation and genesis no longer exist.

Yeah, but its not Terminator 1, Aliens Cameron. Its fucking Titanic and Avatar Cameron.
The older these types of directors get and the more films they make the more I'm convinced their earlier good, genre creating films were complete flukes or they had some other creative person around them that helped make them good.
Look at Alien and then look at Alien covenant..
Ridley Scott has made more bad films than good

Registered 14 years agoCameron's absolutely zeppelin-sized ego might have had something to do with it, but then when everything you do is boffo box office, I imagine I would believe the hype about myself.
I'm not sure what happened to Ridley Scott outside of he was always a visual stylist absolutely at the mercy of his source material: if it was shit, he just made pretty shit. -

The Martian was better than I was expecting but I don't think I've liked anything he's done after it or quite a bit before.
and I think you could say alot has changed with him if you compare Bladerunner or Alien to The Counseller, Exodus, robin hood, prometheus, american gangster..all rubbish.
In my humble, of course

So, what exactly DID he do for that film then? The visuals, that's about it.
In fact one of the fun little gags in the source and the script, the reference to LOTR, he wanted to remove. And apparently actual studio execs had to intervene and say "no mate, that's a well loved bit, leave it in".
I seriously doubt Scott has much going for him than visuals. The art of placing the camera in the right place at the right time. He has no head for script or story, whatsoever. -

Classic Ridley Scott. If he's writing the material, or it's being written by an idiot (LINDELOOOOOF!!!) all you can hope for is a nice looking movie.

I know shit films have had major product placement in the past, but Terminator Dark Fate is going hard in the paint with dlc Arnie as T-800 in Mortal Kombat 11, and Sarah Connor and T-800 skeleton in Gears 5.
Edit- my point being that maybe it's actually not bad, or at least the studio believes in it.

Registered 6 years agoThe "imax exclusive" action scene they showed before Joker was actually pretty cool. They've essentially completely redone the highway chase thing they released first. Still not sure about the decision to get Eartha Kitt to white up for the role of Sarah Conner though. -

Registered 15 years agoRewatched both T1 and T2 in the last month so quietly looking forward to this.
I hope that they actually have a good story in this. I forgot how actually great T2 is storywise, with great acting. Just hope the new one isn't going from one action set piece to the next, which is a worry. -

Yeah it's just so brilliantly made, in every aspect. I also love those atmospheric sounds that accompany the both Terminators like leitmotifs, a very effective... effect. I recently watched an analysis of T2 (especially on the story) which highlights just how much thought and attention went into it, and how it's so much more than just an action movie which it's often mistaken for.

The thing with this new direction is it suffers the same sins as Genysis, in that it permanently nixes what everyone loved; the impending apocalyptic future.
I await to be surprised, but I doubt the dread of the future in this will match the original 2, but this future re-write just means any sequels will all just follow the terminator chase template, swapping round whatever characters they want and whatever new AI antagonist they want.
