I've just been given a PS4...

So yeah, just come into possession of a PS4 with no games. There are no real computer game shops here, just PS4 cafes where people go to play PES. One of those places sold me a copy and I'm quite happy with that but I would like to get my mitts on some other games.

What games would you recommend for a console noob? I'm quite interested in the Star Wars game but am worried that it's going to be very frustrating to play online as it has been out for a while. Battlefield 2 is probably my favorite shooter of all time on the pc so Battlefield 1 has piqued my interest too but games are expensive here so I only want to buy one shooter in the near future, which would you choose?

Any other gems that I should be considering? Not really into RPGs on console so not too bothered about The Witcher, prefer action games that can be played for short blasts. Probably going to get GTAV despite competing it last year on PS3 (it was the only game I had on the console which was gifted to me as it became obsolete, as you can tell, I'm not really into consoles).

    Cheers

I'd work my way down this list and see what appeals, wouldn't bother with Battlefront personally.

    Far cry primal
    The witcher 3
The last guardian - but for me, no replay value. It's not shadow of the colossus.

    Fahrenheit

Some of these go for like £2 or £3 like thief or murdered soul suspect. They're not triple A but for a few quid just buy.

Battlefield 4 can be picked up cheap.
Rocket League is the best sports game available imho and is great for short or long play sessions.

Resogun. Might be a launch game, but it's still wonderful.

    Games I have enjoyed:
    Uncharted 4
    Rise of the Tomb Raider
    Dishonoured
    Far Cry 4
    Assassin's Creed 4
    Destiny*
    Witcher 3
    Final Fantasy XV
    The Last of Us
    The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
    MGS Ground Zero
    Life is Strange

Other games that reviewed well but I have not given enough (or any) time to:
    GTAV
    Titanfall 2
    The Witness
    Doom
    Virginia
    Hitman
    Last Guardian
    Bloodborne
    XCom 2
    MGS V

*I loved Destiny but I would now be inclined to wait for the sequel as it is best to experience the Raids at the appropriate level (and time).

I think he's based in China - for realz!

If I could go back in time I would definitely buy just ONE game - play it until completion - and then move carefully on to the next. No backlog of unplayed gems that are making me rush through each game = gaming nirvana.

If you want a mammoth time-sink - Witcher 3 plus DLC should keep you entertained for aeons.

A shorter but sweeter experience - The Last Guardian.

Best online game - Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. Honestly! Very forgiving when it comes to 'noobs' - more fun than BF1 and Overwatch!

I'm based in a small city in Vietnam. I can get games mail order but only a small selection, occasionally the PlayStation cafes (more like bars really) will have games for sale but it's sporadic and expensive unless you are buying PES.
I like to have physical copies of games.

Star Wars Battlefront isn't too bad online. I think the people playing it aren't as hardcore as most online games. So probably still worth it if you like the idea.

Based on the types of games you're looking for I'd say Uncharted 4. It's exclusive, it can be played in fairly short bursts and it really shows off the PS4's capabilities (though if you're coming from PC that might not be impressive).

Also Titanfall 2. Brilliant in both single and multiplayer.

Didn't realise titanfall 2 had single player as well, that's got me interested.

Would you guys recommend BF4 over BF1?

Personally I prefer BF1 over BF4 by some margin. That isn't to say that BF4 is bad, just for me personally BF1 is much better.
  • Deleted user 22 January 2017 12:05:43
@twelveways I love both tbh, spent hundreds of hours on BF4 but the reason I recommended it is that it's dirt cheap.

Can't go wrong with either if you're looking for some MP action.

Battlefield 4 by a country mile for me, not as techinically impressive but far more exciting to play than prattlefield bum. Cheaper and much more content too.
That said, sp is much better in 1.

End of this month, I'm predicting a sale from Squaresoft as 30th birthday.

    Get ready for that too.

Then mid February, the Valentine's day sale. Mid March, spring sale. End of March, BST hour change celebration sale.
