Wait what, thought we had previews already? Arent previews traditionally 2-6 months before release, after a 5-10hr "experience" of the game? Seems a little late for a preview... |

Registered 5 years agoIt's very late reviews for a Nintendo game, but Nintendo often give publishers their games months in advance. They're meant to be one of the most generous in that respect.
Either they're not confident in the game, or more likely, they trying to capitalise on impulse purchases from those who have just read the review. -

Registered 16 years agoAs this coincides with the release of a new platform I guess they want reviews as close to release as possible. When did the launch Wii U reviews go out? -

Then again, you could argue that there wasn't much to be confident about in the Wii U launch lineup to begin with. -

Er, does that last point make sense? Surely better to get as much hype as possible from 10/10 reviews ahead of release.

It seems to be a theory that holds less and less weight these day. Bethesda aren't even going to be sending out early copies for review any more, for example. I guess it's all part of the emphasis on long-tail sales.

Registered 18 years agoI suspect it's mainly because of the new console launch. Or, the more cynical may suggest that advance reviews might say that the Wii U version is near-identical, and put people off getting the Switch at launch.

Doesn't that dragon thing REALLY look like Volvagia from Ocarina of Time? I mean REALLY REALLY... -

Registered 10 years agoThere's also a much more simple explanation for the lateness of reviews other than making sure the game has been played fully... To prevent copies or spoiler material leaking out early.
They are taking care with this one. -

Registered 16 years ago10/10 surprise hype probably works best when you can actually impulse buy one, finding out it's amazing today gives you over a week to go off the boil and wait til Xmas -

Registered 18 years agoLet's be honest - it's clearly going to be an Essential, right? -

Registered 14 years agoI expect no less, really.
(I mean, they gave an essential to Wind Waker HD, and that was a fairly lazy remaster which didn't even include a vertical camera invert option) -

Registered 13 years ago@Kay It has to be an essential, surely there can't be anyone buying a Switch on day one without it. Even if it's complete rubbish it's still an essential on Switch. -

Registered 7 years agoI can't take any impressions or reviews of a Nintendo game from a dedicated Nintendo outlet or magazine seriously. But I think it's going to be pretty special. -

Registered 18 years agoEG definitely have a fondness for Zelda (and Mario games), so it would have to be pretty underwhelming for it to not get an Essential. -

Registered 15 years agoThat said Twilight Princess HD didn't even get a recommended which was actually pretty harsh.
But yeah, they'll go nuts for it. -

Not having vertical invert sounds like a crime against God, mind. Now I'm kinda worried about BotW... Did Twilight Princess HD have the option?
Wind Walker HD was amazing on the WiiU. Really not getting the negativity. One of the best Zeldas I've played in years -

Registered 15 years agoHaving just played through it I'm honestly baffled as to how anyone can deny its flaws. Yes, it's fun and charming. It's not a bad game by any means. But it has significant, undeniable flaws.
I'm playing through Twilight Princess at the moment and despite it's unnecessary need to be ZOMG SO DARK it's a much better game than I remembered it being. The dungeons are far more intricate and interestingly designed than the WW ones. The weapons are more interesting and less bog standard as well. That wind boomerang thing for example. It's also got its issues mind, but I think it gets a bit of a bum rap. -

Honestly don't remember camera controls or it being an issue.
