I freed my first guardian, Ruta, last night. I forgot the boss battle there is genuinely tricky. It takes a few goes to nail the timing of attacks and they pack a punch when you only have 5 hearts. I must have died 5 or 6 times, even with the use of heart-extending meals. It was good fun though.

I went for that Lynel, too. That was trickier, mostly because it could wipe me out in a single hit, but I have the timing down for that. I just can't remember the windows for mounting the thing. I also failed miserably at using the fire attacks to launch myself into the air with the glider, but they're genuinely great battles.

Does anybody know if the master mode bonus chests refill eith each blood moon? I mean the ones you sometimes get on floating platforms. It's not like I am running out of weapons to use, but I burned through 3 of them on a single Lynel, and that was the weakest of its kind.

I found myself on Eventide Island the other evening. Japes ensued when attempting to down a Hinox with a rusty sword and a spear…

Using magnesis and a metal rock does loads of damage to a hinox, there's a few of them on eventide. Just scrape it against him for a bit.

Yeah if you get it right you can magnesis him to death pretty quick. It's just the pesky add-ons that occasionally fuck you up.

Hmm… I ran up the hill and found the rocks I could have pushed down on it: a little too late when it had followed me up.

I'm sure there's a metal panel around there too or maybe I'm mixing it up with somewhere else

That's the next hill up, IIRC. I tried to hide under a barrel but the moblins saw through my disguise and I was quickly overwhelmed.

Speaking of magnesis and metal rocks... I was trying to shift a boulder into one of those giant holes. You know, the golf-like Korok seed puzzles. Most of them are simple rock boulders plants on hill tops that you need to roll down in the right way in order to get them in the hole. This one, however, was on flat land and there was a river in the way. I had 3 attempts at using statis and a hammer to finally get the boulder over the river and into the hole before realising the boulder was metal and I could carry it over.

    Gah!!!

Thought it was time I went back to this and I can’t remember half of it.

Started again, I didn’t realise I missed it until now and boy is this lovely.

On a similar theme there's a rock at the bottom of a hollow log in Deya Lake. The hollow log goes up towards a large tree stump on the hill and it looks like some kind of Korok puzzle, but it's not. I've stasis hit the rock all the way up the log, even managing to land it in the stump once and nothing. It's like there was a plan for a puzzle there but they abandoned it.

That was actually the only one I kept on, as it often made scaling cliffs a breeze (pun intended). I thought the others removed too much of the challenge.
Same. I googled it when it was mentioned earlier on this page. Sounds dead handy! I just never realized.

Oh man. They randomised the timing of the Guardian's beams in Master Mode! Nintendo, you cheeky beggars.

I guess I can only parry from a distance now. So much for farming ancient gears and cores.

Is that for every single guardian? Jeez, that's tough. They're hard enough as it is.

In fact, you know when you hear iconic noises in games? Like, if I ever hear the sergeants growl from doom, it's instantly recognisable. It's the same for that noise when I guardian spots you. Terrifying!

Yeah, it affects standing and grounded Guardians at least. The lock-on timing seems to be consistent. The red line of sight appears and the charge up remains the same, but the actual firing of the shot (when the eye turns white before the beam of light fires out), that bit is random. In one instance a guardians eye had gone white for a full second before firing its shot, so I had time to parry 3 or 4 times in a panic.

Needless to say its not a reliable way to fight Guardians anymore. If I'm lucky I could down a few of them from distance, but I risk breaking my shield if my timing is out.

Mmm, that's tricky. My only fairly successful tactic is using the master sword and utilising the environment, but it's not always easy.

I'm really going to have to get back on this.

does it still only let you have 1 save?

Here's how I handle guardians in master mode. Stasis the fucker, smack it around with an ancient weapon or the master sword, freeze with ice arrow, wait for stasis to recharge, then repeat. Works a treat.

    @ghearoid

That sounds effective - with the ice arrow and stasis combined, it effectively can't get a look in then? Constantly stasis'd or frozen?

Yes, I wait until stasis ends before shooting the ice arrow. Don't touch them once frozen as that unfreezes them, stasis should then recharge by the time they unfreeze. They barely touch me. Very handy with those major shrine tests.

Stasis + chop the legs off. You get additional Guardian bits for each leg that drop separately from the final parts drop upon its death.

Once 3 legs are off you're pretty safe. Once the final leg has been chopped off it usually flips over and is completely unable to defend itself.

    Ooo yeah, that's handy, definitely.

I've managed to get the major shrines down now, but it's still a hell of a slog, and I can't do it until I have about a zillion yellow hearts backing me up!

Yeah, that's my tactics for the fully functioning ones too

You get one save for the regular mode and 2 save slots for Master Mode, I believe. It does tell you when you first start Master Mode, but I have only needed the one save.

I struggled through it, watched YT videos for more than a few shrines, then taught my 6 year old how to play it during lockdown...and last weekend he completed the game on Master Mode with zero help.

As a guy who has played games for 32 years I suddenly feel very inadequate!

Btw, you all know about the sneak attack kill trick right? It's extremely handy for some of the bigger enemies in master mode. Sneak behind an enemy, perform the context sensitive sneak attack, and when they turn to face you, circle behind them and do the sneak attack again, and so on.

Ah dammit, I wish it was the other way round! I'm crap at harder difficulty settings.

Can I go over my regular save again, methinks...

Haha, heard so many similar stories.

Tch, it's easy though nowadays. Lets see em compete with 3 lives!

    Etc :)
