Car MoT today so had an hour or so to kill. Went into the charity shop nearby and I find an old scalextric tourers 2000 for £10.

Had a subaru rally one as a kid so the urge got to me. Cleaned the track and then discovered one of them is missing the front wheels. Since then I've bidded on another kit full of stuff to make a bigger track and I'll use the cars for parts.

Do I need it... Nope but I'm not spending a fortune on it.

2020 fairly killed the urge in me to buy stuff that I know I don't need. My game, film and book buying has declined substantially. I can't say if it's a permanent change of habit but it's good progress.

Hello everyone, my name is FoxMoody and I buy stuff I know I don't need.
But really some things are greatly influenced by fear of missing out or thing I think I want running out of stock.
I've bought books I've yet to read and currently I have books to read for a year.

I haven't bought a book or blu-ray in years, plenty already in my little collection to last me a long time. I've picked up three games this year, all completed, the last one was Xenoblade Chronicles DE back in May.

I'm not running around waving my arms like Oprah shouting, "I get it! I'm cured!" However, I do think I'm better at appreciating and using what I already have instead of compulsively shopping for new things.

Sad to say that I think the lockdown has sent me the other way somewhat. I find myself more interested in new gaming hardware than in actually playing games on it.

I blame unused holiday/nursery cash sitting temptingly in the bank.

I was doing really well until my week off last week (only bought Xenoblade DE this year) and then ended up buying Tony Hawk, RE4 HD, Hades and PGA 2K21 :|

I bought a solar powered pond pump from amazon that doesn't work, a giant mirror that is too big for me to put up and outside lights that need a hole drilling in the side of the house to work (hole drilling successful).

There should be some default rule than unused nursery/holiday money can be spend on games/tech by absolute right.

I bought another cheapo Hisense TV to replace the even more cheapo Hisense TV I already have, although the prime motivating factor there was so I can give the outgoing tele to my brother, who is using a 14" HD Ready POS.

The new tele has quantum dots or something, and Dubly vision. 🤨

Yeah lockdown has affected me negatively. I think knowing I’m saving a lot on travel and food, combined with being at home far far more has massively increased my spending ‘on the house’ (which obviously includes games, records, hifi stuff, toys etc).

To be fair I’m not quite spending money I don’t have but I’m definitely missing a huge opportunity to save.

    @You-can-call-me-kal

Overpaying the mortgage could be a smart way to put any lockdown related savings to good use. I'm trying to save the extra money for big ticket house repair s (fencing, roof, interior redecorating etc.).

That’s a great idea actually. Kinda don’t want to though.

Count me in with the "I'm buying moar" crowd. Books, games for the kids (including a Ring Fit Adventure), boardgames and, most of all, more snacks and expensive foodstuff.

I used to walk right past the "fancy meat" section in the local supermarket but am now buying chice cuts of american beef, duck breasts, and fresh tuna on the regular. Even things like tinned san marzano tomatos instead of the supermarket brand ones.
