Well the entire world this features is around assassins and contract killers, who obviously get paid for doing something. So how much are they getting paid, if everything boils down to those bloody coins? What are they, kugelrands?

The rest of the plot is just a vehicle to demonstrate pure gun violence fetishism, and Keanu does a good job doing the shooty bang bang against other people doing the shooty bang bang.

They are special coins made for the film. Worth $1000 each if that's helps your currency conundrum

That killing spree underground was amazing. I had the stupidest grin on throughout then when he starts with the shotgun I think I started laughing. I was so happy. Then that final part in the mirror rooms. :)

It's not graphic. The dog is barking, someone shouts about shutting the dog up, you see a henchman walking over to it and, off-camera, he whacks it with a bat. You hear the thunk and the dog yelps - you can then see it lying limp on the floor.

In pretty much the next shot, it seems to have mustered enough strength to crawl over to an unconscious Keanu before it dies.

I have a hard time watching any animal cruelty and I just about managed it. It's pretty cathartic that he slaughters hundreds of people to avenge the dog to be honest.

The first flick is the best action movie I've seen in a very long time. Loved that it had Lovejoy in, too.

He doesn't get another dog in 2, does he?

If the stupid dog wasn't barking it would have been find. Out with the kids the other day I'd have happily killed this barking dog. Owners fault but still.

It's the dog he got at the end of the first.

Apparently they are considering a tv show set in the JW world

Probably a terrible idea. I love both films but it has little to do with the world. That last 5 minutes of chapter 2 was ridiculous.

Really liked the sequel, just watched it. Very stylish, tight choreography and I lots of gun porn.

The thought occurs that its essentially a magical realist film, except the fantasy elements don't consist of wizards or magic, but assassins and guns; the whole "unseen world" thing actually reminds me of Harry Potter or Neverwhere etc.

And I love that element of it.

I'd love that. Part of the love I have for them is all the little bits of world building. As long the fight choreography remains as strong, it could be awesome :) That's not out of the question either as Agents of SHIELD and Arrow have both had some fights stylistically similar on a TV budget.

An entirely one dimensional Keanu assassin who does nothing but emo-kill his way through hundreds of faceless goons deserves a far far better story?

I saw this at the start of the month - it was only shown for one week in Stockholm due to lack of interest...

I liked it. It's more of the same but more polished, which is understandable for a sequel with a bigger budget, but I think that works a little against it. The first felt very rough and raw which was part of the appeal. The premise for 2, and 3, is dumb AF (I realise there wasn't much to the first but this takes that and stretches it too far). Still good though.

The thing I liked the most about the first film was the world. That hotel plus the car/gun jousting combo attack at the end were the only thing that lifted it from being a complete rehash of every other film in the genre.

Although the world building did remind me ever so slightly of that Cusack film where he's an assassin at his high school reunion. And I bet "Fat and the furiosos" has plenty of people driving circles around others whilst shooting at them.

Not saying JW is completely without merits. But a TV show based on a guy who gets his dog killed at the beginning of every episode.... meh.

Had another watch of John Wick tonight. It's a revenge film with soul. Chapter 2 had all the action but none of the soul. The almost universal praise baffled me. Did no one agree with me? Seems not!
Loved the first one. Haven't seen the second but it being a sequel I wouldn't expect it to be as impressive and striking personally. Diminishing returns and all that.

Watched john wick 2 for the 2nd time yesterday (saw it at the cinema). Held up well on a 2nd viewing and still thought it was fucking brilliant. Will definitely be going to see 3, providing it gets made.

I enjoyed the second one well enough, but it does get a bit boring, all the insta-headshots and double-tapping.

There's absolutely no reason this had to be two hours long. A lean 90 mins would have sufficed. All the assassin world guff wasn't particularly interesting and comes off like a poor man's Wanted.

If you can have a poor man's Wanted.

Having watched John Wick 2 i'm now more interested in Atomic blonde which was directed by the other half of the John Wick 1 team.
Also the Bowery King was lame. His whole 'you can only have seven bullets' would have been interesting if we didn't already know that John would kill and then pick up another gun almost immediately.
