Recently got back into the wonderful world of (relatively) high end PC gaming, and the one thing I'm really struggling to get my head around is what sort of vsync to use (or not). I've got a 60hz 1440p non gsync monitor and am kind of baffled by the options available which seem to be 1. Borderless Windowed... Apparently this gets rid of tearing without adding input lag... But some say it's stutter city! 2. Full screen exclusive no vsync - smooth but oh the tearing 3. Full screen exclusive with double buffer vsync, smooth as long as you're over 60 FPS but adds lag and stutters if you drop under 60. 4. Full screen exclusive with triple buffer vsync (directX version), more input lag I think... Not sure what the benefits are! 5. Nvidia fast sync. Apparently great for very high FPS as it gives you smooth tear free gaming with no lag. But adds stutter at normal frame rates. Then there's the hardware options but those aren't an option for me, mainly because I wasn't prepared to pay an extra £200 for gsync! It's a bit mental! What do you use, or does it vary by game? |

I generally use borderless windowed, because I've overclocked my monitor to 90Hz but vsync in full screen limits it to 60Hz
I then make sure that my game settings are never below 90Hz, and cap the framerate using RivaTuner @ 90fps to avoid wasting frames and i think also avoids stuttering.
