    Hi all,

I was about to buy myself a Mini when I stumbled upon a rumour that Apple is about to revise the mini in July.

So, how often does Apple tend to revise the hardware?

    ooooooooh shiny :)

i'm kinda regretting going for my imac as there is no upgrade path at all which is kinda depressing with that awesome monitor going to waste if i get me a g5, and also makes such an upgrade damn expensive, pooter and monitor(s) together. however, big shiny monitor and a mini isn't so bank balance destroying and would then allow me to get a nice chunky dual g5 when i have a bit more cash but the current spec mini is generally lower than my imac so this upgrade would make it a more appealling proposition.

    /eyes up a 23" display

    mmmm, screeeeeeen.

eBay. No, seriously. Mac stuff holds its value MUCH better than PC stuff does, so eBaying the old kit to buy the new is a far better upgrade path than you might imagine.

You're not wrong, I remember the classified ads section of Mac User was always good for a laugh; "You want £1200 for a 3 year old powerbook?" etc.

aye, it's certainly a plan, not really an upgrade path as such though. i think that apple really missed a trick by failing to put a dvi in on the back of the imacs somewhere. i'd have a g5 by now if they did that :/

ehup wopsie, don't see you around here much these days. my doing that is still just speculative at the moment and if it happens will be a little way off yet, but i'll try to give you a yell if it comes to pass. what was the problem with the G5 then?

damn. the more i think about that the better it seems. they could do a little softwarey thing to run on the imac and the external mac to let you switch between what you were controlling, kinda like a kvm switch sending the mouse and keyboard bits over the network or even just a usb link or something so you could run all your serious apps of the powermac and have the imac running your media and low intensity things like your itunes library and whatnot.

By the way that's a month old rumour and that site has a pretty bad reputation these days. I'd trust appleinsider and thinksecret far more.

I haven't seen anything on the other sites that re-inforces or contradicts the rumour. July is a month away (... almost) so I prefer not to risk it.

I think that the changes rumoured on the site like the extra memory slot and the 64MB video card should have been put on the 1st generation of the machine...

Is it a common fault then W0PR? I don't think I've ever seen a capacitor do that - and I've worked on some really badly made/designed equipment.

First version of the iMac G5 is plagued by it - I kind of thought they would have sorted it for version 2. The twats.

Not regretting my Mini purchase at all. Really lovely little piece of kit, takes everything I throw at it very happily, and two years from now I can replace it with a powermac tower without feeling too guilty. I'd go ahead and buy the mini now, yes of course they'll be revising it sooner or later, they always do with everything, chances are it won't be dramatic enough to justify waiting another two months.
