meh, Scotland are in an even worse position than they were last time and being a part of the EU wont help that.

Really? I've become rather disillusioned with referendums.

Why the fuck would Scotland want to leave their closest union just so they can (attempt and probably fail to) join another one? I hate nationalism.

Britain is shit now, I'm looking to change my nationality and I can't blame Scotland for wanting to do the same. Fuck it, leave the rotting, bloated carcass for the Tory fucks to pick over.

    Ha, love it!

    - a) she can't call an indyref2, only the UK PM can, she can only 'ask'
    - b) if it's Leave, good luck with the Euro (which Scotland would need to have if they join the EU - reguardless what she says)

Once in a lifetime unless there was some material change. Leaving the EU is a rather large change.

I really hate the UK attitude these days and would personally take quite a severe financial hit to live in a more inclusive, compassionate and socially conscious country.

It's not always about fucking money.

I think it would be hilarious if Scotland left the UK because they don't want to leave the EU, and then not be allowed to join the EU because of their deficit.

I don't get why right wingers are so angry about this prospect anyway, it would basically guarantee tory rule in the UK forver so I'd have thought they'd welcome the transition to a one party state.
  • Deleted user 13 March 2017 12:07:09
Don't blame them. At least someone in the country is speaking up for people who voted remain. The way the tories bang on you'd think leave won by 99%. They keep banging on about it being a clear mandate and that the people have spoken. They won by the skin of their teeth based on a load of lies and spin.

I'll probably move to edinburgh if this happens.
  • Deleted user 13 March 2017 12:07:19
@Duffking its because no one is stupid (not even letsgo - hopefully!) enough not to realise that UK without Scotland is not as strong as UK with Scotland. We need them as much as they need us.

How would they control the border if they were part of the EU?
  • Deleted user 13 March 2017 12:09:32
@Blurp Same way as other countries i would imagine...

Though much easier because it is like 100 feet across

The theory is we wouldn't need to reapply, as we're already a member. Please don't get me wrong here, I find it massively improbable that it could go that way, especially in such a hugely complicated situation. We'd have a country splitting into 2, just as that country is leaving another union. There's no legal precedence there, and no quick and easy definite answer how it might go.

My gut says it'd take so long to seperate we'd be out of the EU first, then would have to re-apply, but my gut isn't qualified to give legal advice :p

I think the real question is; does the EU want Scotland?

I imagine the people who are so angry about this, ironically who also tend to be Brexiteers, because it'd mean their all important decision to leave the EU would also mean the end of the United Kingdom.

    Especially once Ireland becomes unified.
