Honestly, i will freely admit i am a fan of nintendos (not because of nostalgia and i dont automatically like everything the do because GO NINTENDO) but for some stupid reason i feel the need to defend my enjoyment of the games. As if peoples opinion on them matters to me more than it should do.
I think that is why there needs to be a balance. -

Registered 10 years agoI'm currently playing BoTW and Paper Mario : Colour Splash, both glorious examples, cute, joyful, humorous unlike the grey, dour, po-faced shooters that XBots love. Amirite? -
I absolutely adore BotW, only tried two Zelda games before and thought both were a bit Meh. My first Nintendo console was a DS, but I mostly played third party games on that one. Bought a Wii, but that was a disappointment, mostly. No WiiU.
Only bought a handful of games for the 3DS, but all were stellar.
I don't know where I fit in.
I am a bit surprised by all the complaints that Nintendo rip people off. Vita proprietary memory cards, prices of Microsoft PC games in the Windows 10 store, forced non-compatibility of last-gen gear, they're all as bad as each other. Absolutely nothing special about Nintendo there.

Registered 10 years agoIn all seriousness, I really don't get the bitterness and hatred that fanboys display on the internet, they get so angry and bitter about gaming companies. It's proper mental. I suppose you get it with all sorts of shit, cars, PCs, TVs etc. but it's insane. Look at Cappy's Nintendo dribbling, it's as if they were a person that genuinely hurt him.
tl;dr people are mental but become even more mental on the internet. -

Registered 8 years agoI wouldn't read too much into comment sections, they're all a mess. Rare to go into one where it is unanimously positive, If there is one it eventually gets shitted up by someone starting to talk about frame rate or resolution. Most comment sections are toxic.
But i must admit that Nintendo do seem to stir passion/trolling more than anyone else. I guess equilibrium and all that. They do make some odd decisions that you would expect them to get their head around, but they also make some wonderful decisions that normally leave a mark.
I guess they follow the beat of their own drum rather than following standards and what others are doing and that upsets some whilst enamours others. I think i fall into the latter category. For me at least it is just about games and they're one of their best out there when it comes to making them, and their hardware/software quirks such as rotating the ds to make a book format or something like streetpass and MiiVerse could only come from Nintendo and generally i don't think those decisions get enough praise.
I'm an odd one, I very much grew up as a playstation gamer, i had a snes and a gameboy, but the PS1, PS2 was where it was at for me as a teenager, with the odd bit of PC gaming too. But i noticed over the last few years i become a little bit of a nintendo fanboy. I still majorly play the PS4 over any other consoles but i tend to find myself in nintendo forums and defending them a lot. Not sure why. I guess their little quirks leave a lasting impression on me. In that time frame i think my tastes in games has changed a lot too. From software and Platinum games are ones that i always look out for now, and games like Batman Arkham Asylum and Dead Space reminded me how great Metroidvania type games are as well. I have drifted towards gameplay games rather than story games - even thought i really like the likes of Uncharted and Last of us. I guess i just like games and don't give two hoots for hardware stuff and why i really started to like nintendo over the last few years.
