Registered 17 years agoI hope the Dutch electorate cares enough to go out and vote in large numbers and isn't swayed by the their own Trump wannabe and his simplistic rhetoric.
*fingers crossed* -
By current numbers, ruling party gets 31 seats, Wilders gets 19 seats just like two other parties. So glad. -
I thought the Daily Mail cared about the defeat of fascism, instead their main story is a house in London being sold for more than its asking price -

Huzzah for our northern neighbours! \o/
And yes, choose wisely over in La Douce France as well. Though the polls still aren't particularly inspiring in that regard
-
They weren't inspiring in Holland either. Maybe people have woken up to fight the fascist scum -

And the Dutch vote for the corporate conservative party? Yet another country wasting their right to vote : / -

Registered 20 years agoThe VVD's seat count appears to be down overall too, at the moment, and the Labour party seats appear to be been decimated or worse. Wilder's PVV does seem to be performing better than last time, but the big winner appears to be the Greens. I can't see any way the Green's will be out of the coalition this time around - certainly makes more numerical sense going into coalition with them than the labour party. -
Well it's all official now. PVV didn't come out on top, that's good enough for me. I had rather seen them burn completely but you can't have it all I suppose.
The media focusing on VVD vs. PVV, while understandable, kind of grates though when the two main things of note in the elections are PvdA completely crashing (minus 29 seats, that's bonkers!) and green rising to big player status. -

Same here - although that Erdogan spat helped a fair bit I'd say.

Don't let us down now France.
I'm extremely happy the Dutch aren't going the way of the nazi, but if France manage to show some sense too it'll be some nice proof that the whole extremist right bullshit is on the down swing.
Regarding France, while it makes me sad how much support Le Pen has, I'm still hopeful that voters will use the first round as a warning shot (by voting for FN, getting her into the second round) and then going for the sensible option in the second round instead.
And Germany should be in safe hands too, with Schulz providing a credible rival to Merkel so people don't have to protest vote for AfD scum, i.e. whoever votes for them now can be considered proper brown sauce. -
Geert fucked! -

Registered 16 years agoI was reading yesterday that Erdogan couldn't have picked a better time to start acting like a cocksucker as the way he handled it gave Rutte a real boost, while making wilders look ineffectual. -

It will also be bad for Britain's negotiations with the EU unfortunately. Personally I'm hoping sentiment in France echos that in the U.K., but I doubt it.

I want anti-EU parties to win. Worst case would be facists who want to stay in and grow the European Empire to win, obviously.

I'm also British, so I want governments sympathetic to those who value their own nation above the European "project" to be in power during negotiations. -

Nationalists always support other nationalists no matter how far right they go. Confusingly they think that negotiations with governments with the express mandate of putting their own country above all others, no matter the cost, will give a better deal.

@Fourfoldroot Which British political party do you support?
Given the sound of things UKIP and the Conservatives aren't nearly enough as far right as you'd like.
