Apologies if folk are fed up with this kind of stuff but I'm afraid I've been reminiscing lately & this thread is the result.

I'll limit myself to the early stuff (for the time being!) most of which I'm guessing will be pretty obvious as there was a lot less of it back in those days..

I was a massive Elvis Costello fan in those days so much so that I lied about my age to get a ticket for one of his gigs & it still ranks as one of the best I've ever attended, which is saying something as I've lost count of how many I've been to over the years.

Primus - Wynona's Big Brown Beaver

Silly, funny, absurd and actually very well made (catch the 'making of' if you can), just the way I like it :)

Reportedly the first video played on MTV back in the 1980s:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8r-tXRLazs

(and yes, I believe that is Trevor Horn in the glasses)

And a couple of fairly obvious Chris Cunningham efforts:

and this is a fairly heavy remix done for glorious graphical effect:

I'll leave off linking the vid for Come to Daddy by the Aphex Twin for someone else.

    Star guitar by Chemical Brothers.

Oh... And that Mars video for that Oh my God song by the guy from the XX.

The original video. But Apples desperate attention craving reboot. Although I appreciate how that the into a bit so subtle dig at the sheeple mindset.

Michel Gondry directed that Chem Bros vid, also the director of the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (along with a few other, lesser films). I didn't realise he'd also done the video for Protection by Massive Attack:

edit: Link to the right Gondry video.

Girls on film by Duran Duran worked for me back in the day :)

I also liked Wild Boys and obviously Thriller. They were really shaping the medium back then.

The main android? The film by Alex Garland? It looks nothing like her.

Edit: Well blow me to Bermuda, it is. Sorry for doubting you, I would have never clocked that.

Great vid/song, still waiting for Beck's new album to drop.

There's an excellent series of DVDs (the 'Director' series) which showcase individual music video directors' work. The Michel Gondry (Star Guitar, Fell in love with a girl, Around the World and many other brilliant ones) one is my personal favourite, but the Spike Jonze and Chris Cunningham ones are also superb.
