And with that, I've just got the first cup first try. It's the easiest courses in the game, but still. Lemmy ftw!

@DangerousDave_87 Is the corner you're talking about the one immediately before the jump? That's one of the places I used a drift cancel. Cancel after the previous corner then you can nip round that tricky corner and carry on your way.

That said I didn't do that in the time trial. I just drifted round as close as possible to the edge of the track on the second corner and then I was OK to jump into another drift into that next corner. However that's easier said than done when you're up against 11 other racers.

@BigOrkWaaagh Yeah. That's the one. On 150cc is a very satisfying set of corners, but on 200cc that corner before the jump is tough. I actually fell off twice in three laps and still won, so was able to claw back the damage elsewhere. Well definitely need a few more goes to practice on though, just in case it pops up online.

OK I am used to drift boosting, and also drift braking on 200cc, I usually find a short tap enough to get enough turn in. I also use extra hops going into or coming out of a drift occasionally. But what is this 'drift cancelling'?

@Gaol Whilst in the drift, release accelerate then immediately tap again. You lose the speed boost from the drift so you don't go flying into a wall or off the edge of a cliff as a result of having to drift round a corner.

Right, I'm done, for now at least. Got gold mario, kart, wheels and kite, 3 starred all 200cc cups and I've beaten the staff ghosts at 200cc on the first four cups on the top row. I'm sure I could do the rest given time but it's taking me absolutely ages to get the runs perfect enough to beat the staff times and I don't have it in me any more! Maybe one day.

Played some races and a bit of battle mode with my five year old using the joy cons earlier in TV mode. Fantastic fun.

However. Can you not fall off any ledges?? sort of felt like bowling with the sides up. Great for the kids, has it always been like that?

@CompetitiveDad You most certainly can if you turn off smart steering. If you press +/- when choosing your kart one of the options (I think it's X) is a kart with an antenna sticking out the back. Turn that off. You can also do it in game in the pause menu.

    @CompetitiveDad
That auto steer and auto accelerate are great for kids and people who aren't so used to games.

Had some great sessions with people who barely know how to hold a pad with them on.

Well worth turning off if you know what you're doing.

@Tubey yeah it's a great idea. Not sure if it's set as default but I have been messing about with the controllers trying to set up having a joy con each etc.. probably selected it without noticing what I did.

    Cheers :)

@BigOrkWaaagh aha. Good to know, I've adjusted them now and know what each assist does. Very good for the little ones!

@BigOrkWaaagh Okies. Cheers for the info. Are you playing on Switch? Couldn't see s friends code in the thread for you?

@CompetitiveDad I am on Switch, but I rarely play multiplayer anything. If I do I just dip in for a quick blast when I feel like it in between whatever SP game I happen to be on at the time so I tend not to publish my details as I feel like people expect more from me than I can give.

Anyone played online post patch? It's early days, but I'm finding races slightly less chaotic. Fewer blue shells, lightning bolts, etc...

Even managed a comeback from last place to finish second without being obliterated. That could be the more defensive nature of the room I'm in, though.

I played online for the first time last night and had a lot of fun. No connection issues at all, managed to come in fifth and sixth mostly but I have only just got the game. ;)

Nice! It goes without saying, but just aim to finish as high up as you can, rather than going for victory every time. You'll get less frustrated that way! :p

Dunno why I bought this, had it on wiiu, bought it on launch day, don't think I've played it since. Lost a lot of purpose by having unlocked all the cups from the start. I get it that it's a mp game longer term but felt like dejavu from the moment I "switched" it in.

Yeah I don't play it much either, got it at release on the Wii U and have already put plenty of hours into it and it's DLC.

I don't think I'd have bothered for the single player but I do get good value out of the local multiplayer, it's the only game my wife plays so that's part of the reason why I double dipped.

It's still a good game to have for the collection even if it's not played that often and it's great as handheld title.

I'm playing it most days. I didn't have a WiiU so it's all new to me and I'm an Animal Crossing nut so racing through that track in HD is awesome for me.
