does anyone entertain the time trials?
i believe i have just set the fastest current record on mario stadium, there are a few above but are using the boost trick that was removed so no chance in making the 10 seconds up, any one know if nintendo have plans to sanitize the leaderboards?

so addictive...

I haven't really got a handle on your meaning. The MK8D leaderboards are all from the Switch version, which had the 'boost trick' from the WiiU version removed before it launched. So the leaderboards are an accurate reflection of the game's fastest laps, no 'tricks' have been removed since launch. Until the Switch gets hacked, the leaderboards will remain accurate. If I've got your meaning wrong, then I apologise.

Ref. for Mario Kart Stadium, the current world record is 1:38.833; my fastest time is 1:44.218.

Out of interest, what is your current fastest time?

oh, I mis understood then, thought it was in at one point and then removed, I can see the ghosts jumping from left to right and getting a lot of speed. shit 10 seconds is a lot then. makes me about 8th on 150cc. just noticed you can up it to 200cc also so will hit them too.

100% uk fastest though..
pleasantly surprised at the switch, total impulse buy.
really should do some work :>

mine is 149. next is 139 which I have tried chasing but he gets weird boosts on straights as do the other ghosts that are ahead. don't see a 144. I'm the only one in the 140's on the board. presume its not regional as players from different regions are listed. more likely I'm missing something but will suss it.

god the memories are flooding back.

There's a lot of weird techniques still like spin drifting, soft drifting which set players apart. Turbo management is important as well, such as knowing what turbos override others. For example you shouldn't do a jump boost off a ramp if you're currently using an orange or better mini turbo, or a mushroom or orange boost pad since it will override the better/faster boost you're currently using.

So the leaderboards work like this...

1. fastest time
2. second fastest time
.
.
.
10 Tenth fastest time.

11 ... 19 times that are marginally faster than your personal fastest time.
20. Your personal fastest time.

Your Friends' fastest times will also show up on this leaderboard, interspersed with the rest.

If you beat the time that shows up in 11th spot, you will show up in 11th spot until you close the game down and open it up again. The game will then go off to the servers and get 9 time trials that are marginally faster than yours and bump you back down to 20th spot. It will keep doing this until you get into the top 10.

It's Nintendo's way of giving you something to aim at in improving your time and to see how others are getting marginally faster times.

A time of 1:49.000 isn't in the top 5 of people here on Eurogamer.

You should add a few people from here so you can see their fastest times, give you something to aim at.

I find the time trials to be a lot of fun, and have posted a time for every track.

Meanwhile I have one cup left to do on mirror and I'll have 3 stars on all of them. Just special cup left. Was miles ahead on rainbow road's last corner. Lightning, blue shell, red shell, invincibility star, last place.

i see it, using the slide turbo to propel over the grass between the tubes rather than me currently using the shroom and save the shroom for the last bit going left after the big jump.

didn't think of dropping the boost before the grass, duh...

had it all of a day so getting head round things as not used console for a while due to PCMR. must get a proper pad as these joycons are far to small for my big hands.

Yeah, that turbo boost/hop/turbo boost thing that the top 10 do between the pipes on Turn 2 is a frame perfect trick, not for the faint hearted. Well I can't do it, anyway. Being able to do that trick will improve your time by about 1 second per lap.

The buttons are too close together for my big thumbs on the standard pad too. I'm slowly getting used to it though.

getting there, just need to be consistent now. get the 1st lap but then kill it on 2nd or last. Have added a few names i recognise. You guys appear to race quite a bit, wouldn't mind diving into a game at some point although im sure when i push the button on Zelda its all going to be forgotten.

I've added you, so my times should show up. I treat Time Trials like a rhythm action game. Miles Davis works best. I'm not very good at that though, so mine tend to veer more towards Velvet Underground.

Just finished getting 3 stars on all cups at 200cc. Frigging hell, you really have to get it down to a science.

Fucking hell... I've only just started the 200 cups. The rubber banding doesn't seem as bad, but it's one mistake and it's race over. And you can't have a cup with just 2 stars, you have to finish 1st in the 4 races. Makes racing online in the 100-150 feel so slow though!

MK8 doesn't really have much rubber banding, if you avoid getting hit by items and drive well you usually open up a massive lead. The thing that makes it hard is that the AI tends to gang up on you, has unnaturally good green shell aim and doesn't have to wait for item boxes to stop spinning before they can use the item from it, unlike you.
