| Pacing was weird. I don't know why they needed the Call of Duty scene where it was, with the outcome it had. Killed the flow right at the end there. |

Registered 12 years agoCouldn't care less if Carmichael is a red herring accomplice to the big fish or not now. The 30 minute Aldi Dolores Umbridge act got miles too obnoxious in that one. Absolutely zero nuance.
Hope it's the end of the whole thing after the next one. It's really got nowhere left to go. Having caught up from the very start to current pace over the last few weeks there's an obscene drop in quality after Dot's arc ends. -

Registered 10 years agoAbsolutely. Series 4 was ok. But I rewatched the first 3 again recently and the best and worst thing they did was getting rid of Dot -
If they don’t bring back Neil Morrisey next week I will officially be writing to Points of View to express my deep displeasure at this injustice. -
Dot was good but it was all about mental bunny boiling sexpot DS Lyndsey Denton
I’m guessing Carmichael is being blackmailed/bribed by the Chief Constable. I’m looking forward to Hastings taking her down as he shouts in her face “I may be retiring you sour faced sow but it’s rug munching for you in blackthorn you can be sure of that.”

Whilst I'm still enjoying it, it somehow feels like it's just box ticking now. I can't put my finger on it but it's not as real and is artificial.

Registered 18 years agoI've watched bits and pieces of the earlier series as my gf binged them recently. But I've actually watched this latest series properly. Thoroughly enjoying it - perfect Sunday night viewing. It's the epitome of a BBC crime drama: a production punching above its budget, a script that whips along, some good acting with some naff, and occasional moments divorced from any reality. -

Arnott: It's H's computer boss. Looks like they've been here the whole time.

Hastings: Mother of God!
Fleming: They were using a VPN, boss.
Hastings: Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
Arnott: Not just any VPN, Express VPN.
Hastings: Express VPN?
Arnott: Yes, Express VPN. The best rated UK VPN. They were watching American Netflix while sending the messages to Jo.
Fleming: That is the advantage of using Express VPN, boss. It hides your location on your Macbook so you can access sites not available in the UK.
Hastings: You don't need to tell me, love. I've been using Express VPN to look at child images.
Arnott: I knew it, this was a ruse to get you to confess. We know you are H.
Hastings: It's a fair cop, you got me. Just one day from retirement. It's just Express VPN is good.

Registered 14 years agoI watched all of them back to back up to episode 3 of this series (and then weekly from there). This season feels weaker and more of a remix of previous seasons than anything really new.
Do they actually have a body for the reporter? If not then she is probably under the floor. -

1) who is the person Jo thinks is her dad
2) who killed off Spain policeman and partner
3) What's under the concrete in the gun shop.
4) is Ian Buckells bad or cowardly incompetant
That's it, isn't it? -

Is it really Thurwell's body that was found? Getting James Nesbitt onboard just to use him for a couple of mug shots is either an indicator that something more is going on here, or it's just the fact that maybe Jed Mercurio and Nesbitt are good mates and thought it would be a great bit of misdirection to use him.

I think Hasting will win and try to stop his retirement but Steve will make him an offer. Leave and he will keep the money a secret and Hastings will agree not to disclose his drug habit.
Steve becomes the new head of AC and hastings retires to a bungalow in Clacton-on-Sea with Jill Bigelow.

Yeah, this was my thought. Either a way of introducing him prior to setting him up as the S7 baddie, or a very cool little red herring.

The night vision footage during the raid in Spain was particularly ambiguous when the swat guys found the body. -

Registered 12 years agoThe infighting and internal struggles of each character that have been dragged out ad nauseum are really making it quite a bit more bloated than it should be at this point. Things should really be coming to a head with all guns pointing towards the endgame yet you've still got to worry about when Steve's going to get conveniently pulled on his drug use to stop him discovering something and him confronting Ted about the money at such a time they miss out on a critical piece of info because they can't agree. Too much blatantly obvious happenstance built into it.
Also impossible to suspend disbelief that they've seen corruption walk through their door time and time again at all levels of the establishment and there hasn't been a single bit of screentime given to the fact Carmichael comes across as extremely, almost comic book villain like, dodgy in every scene she's involved in. I don't really know who we should be rooting for when the people it feels we're supposed to be are made to look thick as pigshit. -

I think they did it just so they could get the actors in for the reunion, they were the same guards that tortured Denton in season 2.
