Every series of this has run out of steam a few episodes before the end. I really can't understand why it gets so much love.

Not sure I'll bother with the next one.

We enjoyed this series but the ended was ridiculously flakey with Dot's finger tapping nonsense and the conclusion they suddenly jumped to. That wsa just fucking stupid, it was like they only decided whilst filming the last episode that they should do another series, so how could they set it? I appreciate there is also the OCG's newly planted officer in the force, but you get my point.

Its surprising that it has taken them this long to copy infernal affairs.

Ach, I enjoyed it a lot. Its preposterous nonsense of course, but that's half the fun. I don't want dreary real-life. If I did I'd watch Eastenders.

Think thats the argument tho, that the ending wasnt preposterous enough it was just a bit meh.

Best Brit Drama. Didn't even know there was a thread on it.

Loved this. It was obvious it wasn't going to be Hastings, but I was intrigued to know what exactly he was up to. Also the weird GILF lady, though obviously an OGS, I did like the double-bluff of having her come to the rescue in the enquiry.

And now, realising we've all accepting anyone could be an OGS, they keep doing this thing where they focus in and give background characters a bit more screen time and nodding looks, to make you suspect everyone.

The whole morsecode thing at the end was hella bollocks, and was clearly filmed to stretch the show further. I hope only 1 more season is commissioned.

I would question the budget of this one vs s3 and s4. Seemed to be far less action or set pieces and far more talking inside rooms with not many characters about. Definitely the weakest so far, and once the OCG was disbanded there was literally no storyline outside of Is Hastings H?. Also could have done without the nonsense of him watching porn because he was divorced.

I mean, if he wasn't watching noncery porn, that's a lot of effort to get rid of a laptop.

Especially as he was probably streaming it.

Yeah, that was bollocks. As was the idea that someone who could set up a complex series of vpns to communicate with the OCG couldn't dispose of a laptop properly.

I enjoyed it, but it is definitely the runt of the 5 series. Started watching it from the get go again. Looking forward to series two with "Bollyknickers"

Did anyone else feel sorry for Tony in series 1 ?

Massive let down. Absolutely utterly ridiculous nonsensical clutching-at-straws doesn't-even-make-sense stringing-it-out-for-another-series "it's morse code no it's counting either way it's conclusive evidence except it's not even remotely that what are they on about" bollocks 'twist' ending that adds nothing and destroys everything, plus it was the person we all suspected it was from the moment she slimed her way onto the screen this series.

And SO many bullshit explanations, or worse, none at all, for the shady shit Hastings was seen up to, such as the laptop messenger screen (no explanation) and destroying the laptop (there is no way on God's earth I'm believing he did that purely because he felt a bit guilty about checking out Pornhub, none whatsoever), and eurgh it's spoilt the whole thing for me now really.

    Ah well.

Also while we are at it - what on earth was the sub-plot involving him sort of getting back with his ex, then he couldn't shag her, then he hid, then the storyline literally went nowhere - bizarre. I forgot about it amidst all the other disappointment.

His back is fucked - wasn't he thrown down some stairs in a previous series. Was in a wheelchair for a while.
Seems he can't get it up which would be embarrassing. And it looks like an addiction to painkillers is coming.

Yes, I get that - but it has zero relevance to anything really. The amount of time they spent on it was bizarre vs. actually giving us more plot. And yes regarding his back being fucked from previous - they did a couple of telegraphed "wince now and rub your back steve" scenes to make sure we were all up to date.

They were struggling to stretch the plot across six episodes as it was. Steve's erection problems and Kate's sulking husband filled some time.

They should definitely have called this Line of No Homo, every week someone screams "I'M NOT BENT!"

Thought Hastings's character was played very well as was the Liverpudlian baddie.

Yes, a bit more absurd than the other series, borderline Deus ex machina on the last episode. Still enjoyed it though.

It was only the last bit with Dot's hand that I found a stretch and done purely to string it out. Otherwise I enjoyed it muchly.

Something has gone seriously wrong with the writing of your show when you need to explain an acronym used about 100 times during an episode over the credits rather than in the actual script.

They do love an acronym. I sussed that a CHIS was a Snout . But I just can't remember what CHIS stood for.
I've been getting less and less impressed with each series since 4. The trend continues.

It's overly melodramatic, with lots of meaningful looks, shoals of red herrings, and a generous helping of cheese, but I have been sucked back into it.

I don't like the Scottish lady though - she's very suspect, which means she's not the perp, but still a wrong un.

Unfortunately I agree. The last series was quite average. I hope this one is better. I can't put my finger on what it is I'm liking less and less, but something just isn't working as well, like it's going through the motions.

Possibly the writing disappearing up its own hole?
I mean Bodyguard started well then descended into a load of old shite.

    * I'm sorry I can't be more constructive with my criticisms.

It's easily the most overrated show on TV. I almost feel like we just watch it to take the piss out of it rather than enjoying it.

Only had time to watch one thing last night and in hindsight, that time would have been better spent on Your Honour or The Flight Attendant.

There's quite a good write up in the mail (sorry) which pretty much sums up at least some of why it's not quite working for me.
