Not the best review, but there is some interesting info.

That's more of a publisher and retailer situation. I've noticed when looking at the price of Arc games that prices across different countries, for select installments, seem to vary based on publisher. In Asia (where Arc self publish) and America Revelator was treated as a full priced sequel at launch. BlazBlue Continuum Shift was the same way in Asia and Europe, while in America it was 20$ off since Aksys felt only 3 non DLC characters over BBCT was not enough to justify a 60$ price tag.
Whilst I will agree with the Guilty Gear DLC situation, I do think that the games, even without it, feel complete at least.
They always seem to be priced reasonably well for a physical copy. Revelator set me back about €40 at launch - all other fighting games here in Ireland cost about €70. Xrd I imported from Canada including registered post set me back €48.
I think the lack of communication comes down to the publisher here - pCube, who are a bit of a shambles, not Arc themselves.
On the bright side, when it comes to DLC they're finally toning it down with Revelator and Central Fiction I noticed, and becoming more normalized. Revelator had all DLC free for the week it launched, which was very nice, and Rev 2 is done the Ultra SFIV way (both DLC and complete physical edition). Central Fiction wasn't that generous, but was a huge improvement over Chrono Phantasma, which had 60% of the stages locked behind a paywall and a week one DLC price total that was 2-3 times the price of the game. They also stopped putting DLC characters on the covers. -

I'm still not entirely sold on loot, though. I'm glad to can't buy loot boxes but there should be an 'OFF' online mode or have that as the default in a disagreement rather than ON. -

Registered 4 years agoLooking at reviews it looks like this games equivalent of a arcade mode requires a constant internet connection. That seems like a odd decision. -
I've not noticed it mentioned in a couple of reviews so far but is there a challenge tower type game mode? -

Registered 16 years agoThere was in the last one. They were pretty interesting and certainly killed a few hours. -
Was injustice 1 the game that went a bit shit online as people just spammed the flashes run of one side of the screen punch on the other move? -

It's the online only multiverse mode reviews keep mentioning. Like how MKX replaced challenge tower with the online living towers that regularly rotates challenges, this game does the same with multiverse, and they tied more modes to this mode, like arcade. Or at least, that's how it sounds. -

Registered 6 years agoWhat's with people saying the animation is shit? I thought it was pretty excellent in the last few Netherrealm games.
But fuck me what's going on with Supermans face

There was also a horrible amount of keep away zoning. There always seems to be one tactic that is initially overwhelming in NRS games.

Registered 17 years agoThe amount of single player content in NRs games allows me to more than compensate for my utter ineptness against other people. The first Injustice story mode was probably the best superhero game in years.
But I shall be making another hapless attempt to conjure some online skillz out of my arse this time, too. -
I probably won't bother with online. I'm on meds now for high BP so getting twatted online won't help matters lol. -

Yeah same here. I can hold my own at any type of game online except for fighting games. Are you going PS4? I'm happy to have a spaz off with you at some point.

Registered 16 years agoI think WYP makes reference to it in the review, but you don't need a stick for this. I play on a standard pad and it's absolutely fine for this. -

I think the animation is decent if you can play the game. If you cant it can look a bit clunky.

Yeah the decline in single player content in favor of online focus seems to be the biggest reason for the decline in recent fighting game sales. Most fighting game developers don't seem to understand no amount of "accessibilty" to controls is going to make people better at online. I'm always shocked at the amount of people that can't even block properly when watching them play fighters. There content always contradicts there goal of "appealing to casuals" which they can't seem to grasp.

The best selling fighters, with rare exceptions, after the SNES/Genesis era have always been the more content and single player packed ones at the time of release, both pre and post console online. Tekken 3, Tekken 5, Soulcalibur II, Mortal Kombat 9, Mortal Kombat X, Smash series.
Tekken 7 looks like it's challenging NRS in content, so we'll see how my theory stands. -

Registered 16 years agoThat win probability when you play online will be fun.
"Look, I can't display a percentage low enough to show the actual probability of you winning. If your opponent literally melts because he opened the Ark of the Covenant before the first round, you're still going to lose. Just... no. Play another game. No one will blame you."
They really do single-player content well though

Registered 9 years agoNothing matched vf5 for single player content. Going round the arcades and fighting against the different ai was amazing. Took me months to unlock all the gear for all the characters too. -
