    Whats the gold edition?

Ten quid more than the limited (no doubt the base) edition.

Has thegold one got a season pass or something?

Yeah basically it's the season pass you get extra and farcry 3 as well.

Think i'll get the expensive one. The season pass shenanigans sound fun and the game looks samey, but different enough to have fun with from the footage i've seen.

FC4 was pretty enough so really looking forward to seeing what they can do for the 4k(ish) consoles.

I went for the gold on PSN, it's not cheap but I got the money from Electronic First making it roughly the same as the gold on Amazon - and I'm proper lazy now when it comes to changing the disc in the drive.

This is a fairly safe bet right? FC has generally been decent. Am hovering over the purchase button for the Gold Edition

I really enjoyed FC4, which was my first in the series.
Ask yourself how you feel about 'collect-em-ups'.
If they make your blood boil, possibly avoid.
If you don't mind, or even like them, go for it.

FC3 was great. FC4 was exactly the same game so got old very fast.

If you went in the other direction, FC4 was better.
In FC3, none of the radio towers* were defended. Which was a bit crap imo.

FC2 was king, hopefully this will rival it

FC4 closed the loops a lot better than FC3. The Outposts were more fun, punching antelopes in the arse to make a bigger wallet was more fun, flying vehicles were more fun, and the missions had fewer hair-pulling moments. Definitely an iteration of the form though, for sure. It took me longer to love it than FC3.

Competent but completely unspectacular is how I'd describe Far Cry.

It's a ubi game so if you don't like the formula it's not for you.

Creed, Recon, Watch Dogs and Far Cry are all using the same formula - if you like that it's for you, don't and its not going to surprise and be what you want.

I really enjoy Ubi worlds, they let you explore everything and complete all locations, and, they don't punish you if you want to focus on the main quest only explore bits you want.

There's no way I am ready to stop playing Monster Hunter....
    What to do.

I watched the short film on Amazon. Was quite fun. The only Far Cry I have done is Blood Dragon which was awesome from a stylistic perspective.

    I like this MadCaddy fellow.

    FC2 is the bestest.

FC3 was fun, 4 was good, but very much more of the same.

FC2 is probably my least favourite. The original on pc will always be my bestest as it was the first game I bought that required a gpu upgrade and I was amazed at the visuals. It did lose its way late on with all the trigen nonsense.

I think that ship has sailed mate. I like 2 but it is more "hardcore" than the entries that came after.
5 will no doubt be a lot of fun but make no mistake it will be Far Cry 4.5, and FC 4 was actually Far Cry 3.5...are you still following ;)

And yeah, even though FC2 is a masterpiece, they're not going to make #5 like it, as it doesn't fit the "formula".

This is why we can't have nice things, etc.

Hoping this is going to be great, think I'm kidding myself really. I'm all golded up though. Making the story mode more open will either be a good thing or not. I tend to like a more structured story and there's a chance this will be weightless in a similar vein to 4. But they do seem to be doing open world games a tad differently going on origins (which fwiw I'm not a major fan of) if they can make an interesting world (origins Egypt is not really interesting in the main) and their Montana looks like a great place, maybe they'll nail it this time. Keen to take a look.

They're all very similar though, Ubisoft games. I was completely burnt out playing Far Cry 4 and Unity back to back. They're just massively padded slogs.

Not that all of Ubisoft's stuff is that way, but those two series are merging together.

Also, Far Cry 2 is DEFINITELY the best in the series. Much like Assassins Creed 2 was the best in it's series as well. Its a shame neither series has moved on very much from those templates!

No, the problem (as far as FC is concerned, I don't know anything about AC) is that they *did* move on from the FC2 example. They took out everything interesting and unique about it, and began a new template with FC3. Which they've basically been repeating ever since.

They're still good games, just as FC5 is likely to be a good game! But revolutionary they are not. You know what you're getting.
