Registered 15 years agoI played as far as the first main boss last night. I've perfected every stage so far though I had to restart 3 of them I think due to losing people. The one with all the smashers and the chain chomp was tricky.
My favourite thing so far is when a spring weapon pops an enemy up and Luigi's Steely Stare spots them and nails them out of the sky.

Best way to deal with Smashers is to have people spread around and just make them redirect all over the place.

You can do a four shot combo with Mario and Luigi by putting one on Overwatch further away, shooting the Smasher with the nearest one to it, its reaction move will trigger the overwatch and it'll run towards that character, then overwatch the other and shoot with the one it's now closest to and it will run the other way.
Then shoot it with Rabbid Peach and shield her up so she can tank the hit better.
Either that or tank with RP and use Rabbid Luigi's weaken to really cut their damage.
Also, only weapon hits trigger their reaction move, so you can slide tackle them every time for more damage.
Remember to get those movement hits in in general, if an enemy is in your movement range at all you lose nothing by doing a slide tackle on it because you can still move on to anywhere in your movement zone after doing it, your move isn't "six squares" it's "as much as you like within that zone". And y'know, if you want Mario to drop the hammer on someone it's categorically better to team jump stomp them first for the extra damage.
Though I guess the enemy will get some overwatch goons later on, that will just mean using RP shielded first to soak them.

I've been upgrading the slide tackles and Mario's ground pound move. RL's vampire tackle and RP's multiple slide tackles allows me to clear trash mobs before I even need to start shooting, judicious use of the pipes allows speedy flanking too; honestly the amount of movement and the tactical freedom it provides I s incredible.
An option for fog of war a-la X-Com would make me more cautious. Although enemies are now using overwatch too. maybe fog of war will appear in later stages.
Some of the challenges have been interesting but with sufficient upgrades they have all been achievable.
It's a great little game, and playing it on the switch so I can easily jump in and out for short sessions is just the icing on the cake. -
I've just cleared the second world mid boss, the difficulty is ramping up significantly.
Lots of different enemy types in the stages with a variety of weapons with special effects. The last one I completed contained Medics with burn grenades , giant buckler rabbids, and springers with honey shots.
In the second world you have to do multiple stages in a chapter with no healing in between, forces you mix up your roster mid chapter.
Overall I am very impressed with this game. Ubi have done a fantastic job hope they get a chance to make a sequel.
A little bit of advice try to avoid upgrading weapons as soon as possible, try and wait to get the guns from the VR coin rooms. These guns always come with unit specific bonuses for special effects. -

Registered 15 years agoOne thing I've read is that each world as well as the challenges, has a pair of secret chapters, so it's probably worth exploring fully before moving on. -

Registered 17 years agoMy fear is, if I go back and revisit World 1 before starting World 2 will I be running the risk of grinding too much and becoming too powerful for when I do start World 2? -
@KingOfSpain Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I did go back to world 1, but I deliberately wasn't too thorough.
As I said earlier, the next tier of weapons and a few points more on the skilltree can make a *massive* difference. -

Registered 10 years agoOh my this is glorious. Just as good as I hoped it to be so far, possibly even more so as the over world type stuff is just right too. Just got to the castle grounds.
From what I've read they suggest doing the challenge map/revisit stuff straight away otherwise you become too powerful and the rewards become meager.
Also advice was ignore the other weapons firstly and go for each characters signature second weapon first. Not got that far myself yet though.
P.s rabbids peach really does rock lol and I usually detest these freaks, the intro between her and real peach is just classic.

Registered 10 years agoMan I have to get my left joycon fixed, I swear the interference problem has got worse the last few times I've tried it. Is it easy and quick for them to sort? Really should have sent it when I wasn't using it :/ -

Yeah it's easy mate, I got mine fixed recently. You can even fill out everything online so no long phone call with a clueless rep. Fill out a form, print out some shipping labels, jobs a goodun. -

Registered 13 years agoHad the day off yesterday and started this and the new Uncharted - both have their strengths but definitely spent much more time on this. Don't see how to make money though to actually buy and try all weapons, have managed to buy one new weapon each (only have the first 4 characters). Can I replay missions to get gold? Still only on around 1-6/7 -

Registered 15 years agoIf you perfect a chapter you get like 400 coins, plus whatever you find lying around. You can go back and replay chapters once you've cleared the whole world. -

Registered 17 years agoYou can replay but you get less gold rewards than the first time through. I don't think they intend you to get everything as you progress - it's about making choices. -

Registered 17 years agoI've bought 4 guns so far (one for each character), and on finishing the first world I have just over 2300 coins. -

I'm sure that all the elements come in handy, but bounce and (I guess) push will trigger the overwatch from Mario and Luigi so they will be effective in that particular combo.

I have an ink gun for Luigi which comes in handy when it works.

Registered 15 years agoI'm thinking I'll avoid fire on everyone but luigi so far due to the chance of setting yourself on fire at close range. Push and Bounce seem great for the chance of knocking stuff off the map, Honey is good for smashers.

Registered 16 years agoThis game is great. It's like the new XComs but less po-faced and with super-short load times. Just beaten World 1 and have been unable to resist buying every shiny new weapon I can afford. An Ubi game that's not shit: who'd have thought? -

I love it. Last night was the first night in ages where I really didn't want to switch it off and go to bed. -

Registered 13 years agoI'm having a blast with this game. Spent the day relaxing with it, playing through world 1. If it stays this relaxed it'll be great. World 1 kind of reminds me of playing through Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Methodically plotting a way through each level accompanied by that soundtrack and the toy box visuals. Mechanically different to that game, but with the same aesthetic and mood. -

Well... Ubi has made the best multiplayer game this generation in my opinion with rainbow six siege.

Registered 14 years agoPlayed nothing but this game since Friday. Loving the pace of the game. It is very relaxing and production qualities are great.
Past the mid boss on World 2 and the game is getting a bit tougher.
Playing majority of the game in handheld mode too which is just sublime.
Wonder if we'll see a port of Xcom on the Switch? I would buy that again! -

Done the secret chapter and all the challenges in world one aside from 8/9 as they're insane. World 2 time.
