7th August release date, can't wait! Even though 30 is just a tad steep IMO, but then Hollow Knight can't be the benchmark for everything.

20% off if you preorder though. It's 17.99 on the eShop (you bet your ass I preordered when I saw that)!

Yeah, definitely picking it up for 17 off the e-shop - the offer runs to 6 August 2018 btw.

Think I've got a fair few points/coins/whatever the fuck to use on it as well :)

Is there any gameplay of the switch version around? Hope it runs OK.

@Cadence Not yet from what I can see, but I played a lengthy demo at a games show last month and I didn't notice any slowdown, ran perfectly.

The Metroidvania fan in me wants to snap this up, but the roguelike hater in me says avoid.

    Conflicted.

From my two hours with it, it's more Rogue than Metroid. Fully procedural world.

80% roguelike, 20% Metroidvania IMO, if that.

Heh, exactly the same here. I thought I would love Enter the Gungeon for example but wasn't very good at it, and just got sick of starting from scratch every time. I need some sort of progress that I can grind out these days I think.

Definitely double-dipping for that one. I barely played it on the PC once
    the Switch version was announced.

Its not Metroidvania at all in its structure, and yet it reminds me most of the old Castlevania games.

Much more grinding potential here than in Gungeon, monkman. Death and permanent upgrades are part of the game.

Permanent upgrades, or permanent additions to the loot pool? If the former, wahey, but I thought it was the latter? (Which is like EtG and others.)

Mostly the latter, but not just that - you can grind (as permanent upgrades) the amount of money you can keep from your former run, the number of health potions at your disposal, what kind of weapons you get at the start of each run, etc.

Ooh, I did rue missing the deals the other week but I conflicted with this. I'm not sure it's the kind of game to play on a 55"tv deffo seems suited to smaller screens

So by plugging away, I can make it slightly easier? Win :)

YOU CAN'T SIT REALLY FAR AWAY FROM YOUR TV BUT STILL SEE IT IN THE MIDDLE OF HAMPSTEAD HEATH WITH NO POWER SOCKETS CAN YOU, NEILKA?

A laptop would work fine for that, and would have a screen you could actually see in any location brighter than Nosferatu's living room.

BUT IT'S MORE EXPENSIVE THAN A SWITCH, USER NEILKA! THE SAME ARGUMENT USED BY ALL CONSLOLERS EVER. YOU ALSO HAVEN'T ADDRESSED THE CLOWN-PANTS ARGUMENT. MECK AND CHATE, METHINKS.

There's one thing that's more fun, not as noisy, and not as unhealty for your posture in general as gaming on a latop, to be fair, and that's shoving razerblades into your anus while you're making a headstand inside of a steel mill.
  • Deleted user 11 July 2018 13:46:28
    @neilka

Cheers for the heads up. Think I'll grab it. I was eyeing it up in the steam sales but forgot all about it.

I've tried both, and agree with UncleLou entirely. Although I'm now picturing neilka on Hampstead heath (naked) playing Dead Cells on some shonky PC World laptop with a knock-off SNES styled cabled joypad, whilst sobbing uncontrollably.

I don't know why I'm picturing that. I don't know why it makes me feel all tickley downstairs either.

Well don't expect too much, you can't improve your character as such or anything, but there are a few upgrades that definitely make your life a lot easier, and there's definitely a bigger sense of progression than in Enter the Gungeon, for example.

On a sidenote, Enter the Gungeon is too difficult for me as well. Anything "bullet hell" - whether it's some bosses in Binding of Isaac, or *many* of them in Gungeon, is my Achilles heel.

Not (really) a Metroidvania. :) Excellent nonetheless.
