That level where the darkness hurts you is a right bugger. I give up one of my beloved crossbowmatics for the glowy thing, but I always end up getting whittled down. Any tips?

Don't stop moving and use transporters to backtrack rather than running.

@Frogofdoom Cheers for the tip. I love how it required a totally different strategy than I'd been using to get there.

I have now beaten the clock tower dude and made it all the way to High Peak Castle, but then couldn't progress as I don't have the spider rune. Total bummer. Had to restart.

Eh? You don't need the spider rune to finish the castle. At least, you shouldn't need it.

    This game is fantastic.

I've only discovered two ruins (vines and the statue teleport) and I've put in a lot of time since then without discovering any others. Will I find them on the 'regular' path or should I be trying the 'alternate' routes out? Please be as vague as possible :-P

    Which one's the Spider rune?

@Rhaegyr use the runes you have to discover alternate paths in the early levels. They're not very hard to find.

The one that lets you wall-crawl.

You need them in order to access some stages and extra loot, but I don't think you need any of them to finish the game. Except maaaaybe the vine one.

Ah, I haven't got that one and I've got to HoTK so it's definitely not necessary to beat the castle.

What's this most like? Castlevania and dark souls had a baby?

Rogue Legacy raised the baby from birth. Then yeah, maybe.

It's definitely compelling, but still finding it very empty and the boss encounters lack much in the way of excitement. Feels like boss fights in a sealed room don't play to the strengths of the moveset - I'd love to see them more spread out. That said, I've only met three bosses so far, so maybe they do. :)

Slowdown on Switch is getting more problematic now though - the more I play, the more the stuttering and slowdown in busy moments is costing me. :-/

@Mola_Ram Huh. I had a very small part of the level available, and the only exit was a wall that would've required a triple jump or some wall stickiness. There was no other way to go. Maybe a bug, I suppose.

This is where you tell me I missed something basic!

Just spent a rather long lunch break getting the spider rune, so am better prepared now. What a game.

Usually those doors are fully linked, it possible there was another door that could have taken you to the other side? Procedural generation isn't foolproof though, it's possible it made an error.

@Phattso Iím not going to touch DC until the slowdown is fixed.

Didnít bother me at first but now Iím finding it really annoying.

Finally beat that git in the Ossuary! I used an ice crossbow, a shredder and a floor trap with the spinning blades. I can't remember what that's called. It was bloody close but I done him up good.

Wolf traps are the answer to almost any of the games problems.

Really? I tended to go with the shooty traps. I'll bear that in mind and try and get at least one wolf trap. Cheers.

They are incredible, they also mess the last boss up beautifully because he won't get to move much. They are quite tasty when combined with a crusher as well

Really starting to find this very addictive, especially with more options available to me. I'm kind of lost in Hollow Knight so this has greedily led me astray.

Will have another dabble on HK tonight to see if I can't find a path.

I find hollow knight superior to this tbf but it is much more demanding on your time. This you can just throw on and have a crack at.

I thought hollow knight was poor compared to this, the controls aren't as sharp and the combat isn't as good. It does have more bosses though.
  • Deleted user 13 September 2018 22:09:26
Controls not as sharp in HK? We talking the same game? The precise snappy controls were what grabbed me from the start.

DC felt a bit slapdash by comparison until I got used to it.
  • Deleted user 13 September 2018 22:13:21
Both feel great to me. One more considered, the other more aggressive.

Anyways. I can officially report that DC is a very decent way to burn two hours on a long haul flight. :)

I'm going to buy one of the two. HK has great reviews but watching videos I much prefer the visual style of DC.
