Interesting article here on HDR, suggesting Nvidia might have fiddled a side by side comparison by turning down contrast etc on the SDR monitor.

    http://www.pcgamer.com/monitor-demo-shows-why-we-shouldnt-worry-about-hdr-just-yet/

I went shopping for glasses on the weekend, and this makes me think of the bit where they wheel out the book with comparison shots to sell you polarised lenses for prescription sunglasses. The ones where regular sunglasses are murky and grey, and - surprise, surprise - the polarised lenses are crystal clear.

Obviously I paid the extra for it, we all do. But this kind of marketing trickery does beg the question of whether HDR is really all it's cracked up to be, in the medium term at least.

Yeah, suspect you are right in that mileage may vary on how any particular game is built with it in mind. Suppose it would be nice for DF to find an objective way of assessing HDR implementation.

I was in a camera store in Chinatown San Fransisco and the guy tried to sell me a HD filter.

Was a polarising filter. Which I was actually kind of interested in but the fact that he caled it HD filter made me lose all trust in him.
