This is going to be a bit of a rant . . . Background: Back in 2006 I started creating music on my computer. It wasn't going to set the charts on fire but I enjoyed it and even created one or two tracks that I'm still quite proud of. I also created a few game play videos which included my music and were uploaded to YouTube. Over time I played about with my tracks and put them up on MySpace (I was surprised to find it still exists today) and Sound Cloud. Yesterday: I had an email from YouTube, my video had been reported as using copyright music. Really, I thought. Probably just a mistake by YT's algorithms . . . nope. Someone has actually claimed the rights to my track and has it on an album on Spotify and Amazon Japan. Ok, I admit is not exactly the same, he's taken my track and then overlaid some synth backing but there's no doubt it's mine. Bastard. I've responded to the YT copyright claim and have reported it to Sound Cloud too, they've asked for more details which I've given them but I've no idea what they'll do if anything. I don't expect anything financial from this, never did when I was creating them but it's just not on to take someone else's work and slap your name on it and sell it. My track called Mellow (MySpace link for shits 'n giggles) His track on Spotify, Dream Escape Edited by HitchHiker at 21:23:45 09-06-2017 |

Registered 20 years ago@CrispyXUKTurbo I have the .als files from Ableton but it doesn't include all the sounds and samples so I'm not sure how useful it would be. -

Registered 20 years ago@mal That's sort of what I'm hoping, that Sound Cloud and YouTube will see the dates on my tracks both on MySpace and Sound Cloud and draw the right conclusions from that. -

Registered 20 years ago@UncleLou Done, thanks. Although I don't like the fact that by filing a complaint with Spotify, you have to agree that they share ALL your contact details to the other party including full name and address. The fact that that person is an arsehat that likes to steal stuff, asking to share that info with them is worrying. -

Registered 20 years agoI've just had a rather snotty email from a music publishing company asking why I'm claiming the rights to the track as Spotify has told them of my claim and removed the whole album from their catalog for now. The company is uk based which I wasn't expecting and their client operates under an alias and they've given me his name.
Spotify helpfully passed on my email address but did not give them any of the explanation or links to my tracks. So I've replied to them with links to all that stuff and will have to wait and see.

Registered 20 years agoJust had an email from SoundCloud, they have removed his track. Spotify are waiting on the Music Publisher to respond to them with a rebuttal or agreement or whatever the legal term is. The Music Publisher has also just acknowledged my response to their snotty email and is now going to speak to "Tim". Things are moving along. -

Registered 20 years agoNo I didn't. I'm not expecting to gain anything financial, I'm just pissed that someone was claiming it as their own and then issuing me with a copyright notice on YouTube.
I'm starting to worry myself now that the Music Publisher will start a claim against me for loss of earnings because reasons . . . -
