As a long time fan of Insomniac's games, especially Ratchet and Clank, even Resistance! Ive got high hopes for what they can do with spidey.

If nothing else surely they will get the swinging and climbing right!

I didn't even realise it was Insomniac that was doing this. I was already very interested just because it's Spider-man, but Infamous is fantastic. Given it's a developer that knows their way around a superhero open-world game, this has to be awesome :)

Edit: I was misled by the above quote, it's not Insomniac. Misled, I say! I'm still interested though, as I liked Sunset Overdrive. They got that feeling of movement spot on, so hopefully that'll translate well.

I do wonder, why has it been so hard to make a truly great spiderman game?

    Insomniac worked on Infamous?
  • Deleted user 12 June 2017 14:56:06
Insomniac created the Ratchet and Clank series whereas Sucker Punch created Infamous.

I'm glad it's not linked to any of the films. Wonder which villains they'll choose from the rogues gallery. Hopefully Peter Porker the Spiderham gets his moment in the spotlight.

I'd be much more excited if Sucker Punch were doing it.

Never really got the fuss about Ratchet and Clank games. They're pretty and slick to play, but there's nothing very original or imaginative going on there. Their other efforts such as Resistance and Sunset Overdrive were meh.

Both Insomniac and Sucker Punch make slick looking games that have very little depth imo. Second Son bored the shit out of me after a few hours.

Hope they've added a bit more depth.

Meh, Infamous :SS managed to be incredibly boring, I'll take Sunset Overdrive any day.

Did you try First Light? That was tighter and was glorious to look at with all the neon :)

I really enjoyed Second Son, even the side missions!

"Much more excited" was probably an overstatement but at least they've demonstrated they know how to make a game that makes you feel like a superhero. It's a decent start.

Nah, you're forgetting Titus who made the instaclassic Superman 64, probably the best superhero game ever made.

If they show this off tonight and it has the same structural depth to the open world as Infamous SS or an open world Ubi game, my inner pre-teen that has pined for a fantastic Spider-man game since 2 will be soul-destroyed.

This is genuinely one of my most anticipated titles. I really want it to be good.

Well sunset overdrive was ace so i cant see this being bad as the movement will be quite similar.

Looked pretty aces in the conference. Arkham-ish combat with added speed and spidey-flare, swinging and webbing through the streets... Maybe a little QTE heavy but the cinematic moments were pretty great!

Probably the highlight of the (pretty lacklustre) conference for me. Shamelessly Arkham in places but in the end that's not a bad thing. I'll be paying attention to how it shapes up.

    Did they definitely say 2017?

It says 2018 at the end of the video. Looks good but it's all going to hinge on how involving the web slinging is. It kind of looked like the game was playing itself at the end.

I largely agree with this, and it didn't look seamless like he was firing left wrist > right wrist > left wrist, etc. It was more kind of fire one > let go > fire the same one. I hope that is there as everything else looked great.

Yeah, it seems heavily inspired by Arkham but that's ok. With Spidey's humour and the bright daylight setting it'll just be more lighthearted across the board.

Looks cool. That helicopter chase and take down. Something tells me I wouldn't be nailing that in one single seemless death-less run. HA

As a reveal goes, that was pretty good. The Animation and presentation of it all was great. Love how vibrant it is too.

Is it too rude to ask for a playable Daredevil Cameo though?

    Looked amazing.

The QTEs worried me a little, but they looked decently well designed in the way they mirrored the control scheme that the player is using for proper gameplay, which is the key. I'm mostly tired of Arkham combat in other games, but honestly Spidey is such a perfect fit for that (miles more than Batman even) that it gets a free pass as long as it's enjoyable.

So looking forward to this :)

Looks like a lot of fun.

Highlight of E3 for me so far. Loved that trailer, and the thought of Grand Theft Spidey with Arkham Asylum's combat has given me a semi.

It looked fantastic. QTE's aren't the worst thing in the world if they are used sparingly. Scripted action sequences are always going to be major set pieces, which is what you're supposed to show at a gaming convention like E3.

Also, It's not like there is a plethora of decent spidey games out there to compare this one with. The best spidey game was released more than a decade ago.

Why do you think Arkham style combat/stealth is used in so many games? Because it works, it work's brilliantly and is 100 times more fluid than those shite mechanics us older lot had to slog through, whilst playing every single turgid, derivative, superhero tie-in of the last 10-15 years.

People should be appreciating this more and just bask in the fact that it looks bloody gorgeous, is an exclusive, and is being developed by a solid developer.

The only thing that has me a tad concerned is the web-traversal/ slinging. Everything else looked excellent.

There didn't seem to be any consideration as to the physics of Spidey's movements. The lack of momentum, procedural animations and the like, is a little disappointing. He just seemed rather slow when swinging about the city.

I remain hopeful though. The story telling and cinematography alone is leaps beyond any previous spider-man game.
