'Cos it gives you two skills.

It's choice really. You choose Alpha if you want those particular buffs and choose beta if you want to cover a mixture of buffs. It's just a way of enabling different play styles.

Because some buffs are stronger on the Alpha than the Beta, and the gems are super hard to get a hold of. Kaiser Vambraces: Alpha gives Weakness Exploit 2 and a level 1 deco slot, Beta gives Weakness Exploit 1 and and a level 3 deco slot. I often find it's worth taking the Alpha as I have a single gem for Weakness Exploit, so I can get level 3 without having to sacrifice any further armour skills towards it.

Alpha usually gives you extra skills. Beta gives you a slot instead.

No grind, just smash. The other elder dragon gear has some verrrry choice bits on it them and is where the real grind is in.

Top tip keep moving, he's like a giant Tiger with a ridiculous ranged leap, he does not stop moving and if you haven't got good earplugs he can stun lock you before power bombing the ever living snot out of you.

    Any tips for fighting Bazel?
He's coming up on my list...

I'm figuring it will be easier if I do a Great Hunt so that each monster is weaker.

Less rewards from the target monster though.

As for Basil the Goose, Flashpods. Bring all 13. He flies so god damn often. If he starts scraping his face on the floor or dropping bombs, just wait it out and be patient. Fight in an open area. After that, you should be good.

Also, I think his entire body is a weak spot. I've never had anything but giant orange numbers when hitting him.

Armour or decoration gems. The gems need a level 3 slot to equip though.

There are so many monsters they could add if they were so inclined.

I would add Jhen Moran, Barioth and Congalala for starters. Khezu maybe and Agnaktor

Congalala should definately come back, there's nothing like him (Khezu is like puki-puki, and Agnator is Lavisoth).

    Rajang's an end-game laugh too.

Agnaktor, Lagiacrus and Royal Ludroth were all basically the same...

Is Congalala the orangutan type monster that would swing down from vines in MH4?

It would be a nice addition but the environment in MHW does not really suit it.

Same with Khezu, no suitable cave ceilings. Boo.

The cool drink/no hot drink thing has me still hopeful for an extra wintery area, and there are still a few monsters AWOL from the 'leaked' list pre-release.

    Lunastra for one.

Did a Great Hunt last night with pink Rathian and diablos.
Felt surprisingly easy. I never really felt in danger of fainting.
    Lance + Guard 4* ftw!

*Odogaron armour, barroth helm and guard charm. The odo armour gives nice skills like precise polish (?) so I am loath to give up the polish one for the extra level of guard.

Joined a mission fighting Legiana, Odoggy, Diablos and Rathalos in the Arena one after the other, and occasionally 2 at a time. Great fun. I feel like most players are edging towards being OP by now, didn't even break a sweat. Got the mats for a max upgraded Handicraft charm out of it.

Also took down my first couple of tempered elders and on my first go, have 2 streamstones for augmenting my bow and lance. Well chuffed! I'm in the endgame now but it feels bottomless, still have dozens of weapons and armour I want to get and augment.

I have done that arena battle a few times. (Not had it registered as completed in the mission select though).

Unlocked the Tempered Kirin Mission last night.

Took a break from DBFZ to crack back on with this. Had to laugh at doing an Ancient Forest Great Hunt investigation for a Great Jagras, Anja, Tobi and Pukei Pukei as the Jagras went down in under 5 hits. I know he has 1/4 his normal HP, and isn't strong, but come on man. Put up a fight at least!
