    I finally got to the elder dragons. Beat the wind one and had 2 goes at the fire one. I'll get him eventually. I find I spend a lot of time running away from him and then getting a few hits in then running away again to avoid getting hit.

    @Fonzie

    Cold drinks or the Fireproof mantle are your friends, and sticking in the neck area between his horns and front leg is a pretty safe spot for most attacks.

    Learning the tell for his supernova is the key thing, and having flashbombs ready if need be.

    Really good night tonight, some smooth Behemoth runs to make everything, three Rath Rubies as karma for helping Grax, and most importantly, a Guard Up gem that'll replace the charm I've relied upon so far.

    I nearly had him on my last attempt. Definitely going down tomorrow. It's a fun fight just need to be more attack minded.

    Oops, sorry. Thanks for your help today. Managed to finish the main story and my HR jumped from 15 to 25.

    I upgraded my weapon so it's attack rating went from 550 ish to 750 ish but I haven't really seen much of a jump in damage. Only tried the weapon once so will give it another go next time.

    Had one go against the giant chicken who steals the blue crystal. Didn't beat him and he hit me really hard so I think I might need to upgrade my armour.

    We'd have joined you for Xeno Jiva, but it said you never left the cut scene. :(

    Don't know if you heard any of our chat, the "don't forget we've got to capture this Doggo", barely 1 second before we failed that quest was a moment to remember/forget.

    It's better to avoid being hit by the chicken - even with top end armour he's killed plenty of us (that's why they give you 9 attempts).

    Going in with bow was definitely a good idea for the blue chicken.
    And remembering to use the mantles also helps!

    Fonzie - it's worth battling your way past Lunastra to get the Temporal Mantle.

    I have the Temporal Mantle and have never used it, but something about it almost seems like cheating to me. I haven't equipped it on principle but I see some others using it.

    Drop those principles sharpish and enjoy the brief protection it offers you.

    I managed to beat Xeno Jiva and then went on to help a few others out beating him to farm materials from him/her.

    I shall make a bit more progress later on. Going to capture that one you guys killed for me, haha. I couldn't listen to the chat so didn't hear that.

    Cheers for help today. Got through quite a lot of my unfinished optional quests and helped increase my HR. My upgraded charge blade is starting to do some good damage now. Will upgrade a few more and see how they go but I like the blast effect this one has.

    I'm downloading Monster Hunter World as I type this. It's been unlocked for PC players. :D

    It will be my first foray into the series. Anyone got any tips for newcomers?

    Watch Arrekz or Gaijin Hunter vids on YouTube - they've done vids for new players.
    There's a lot to get your head around.

    It all seems pretty overwhelming. The point when i was riding a Great Jagras was when I decided it's quite good :)

    Hopefully the Autumn event will give you access to the western USJ event.riding a mini Jagras is still probably one of the best things i have done lol

    Arch-Tempered Teostra is live on console, doesn't seem that bad. I finished him with my second SOS group, even though I person quit out half way through, and we missed a sleep bombing opportunity.

    How do you ride stuff. The only thing I've done with a great Jagras was hit it until it stopped moving.

    If you do a drop attack from above, or generally hit them mid-air, you have a chance to mount them and wail away. Easier with airborne weapons like insect glaive, but most reliable I reckon is the lance charge. You can do a little hop and hit, and it has a chance to mount.

    @Rusty_M

    I don't really know, i was using the Glaive so i was basically leaping around like an idiot and suddenly i was mounted.

    I've spent ages in the training area, I cannot decide which weapon i like best, they all seem awesome.

    The weapons are great. I'm fairly new to the series, having played about 5 hours of MH 4 on 3DS. I preferred the training area in that game, although it was a pain to have to load into it for each weapon. I just find trying to kill a large monster was a better way of seeing how something clicks than hitting barrels and trees.

    So is this cross play by the way? Can I play with the people who've been playing on PS4 this entire time?

    Otherwise, we might want to create a band of PC players for us to assist each other.

    @Alastair
    Brilliant! Going over the Weapon tutorials now. There's a lot more more than I've been able to glean from my time in the training area.

    @Skirlasvoud I'd certainly be interested in the odd team-up on PC.
