Yeah, erm... I just got this for, like, 16 quid?

Also, as I'm here, what are the recommendations for camera and control settings? I'm really not getting on with the defaults, it's possible I'm too used to From stuff for third person combat.

Erm, I don't remember changing the settings. But, it was well over a year ago...

It's worth bearing in mind, this is actually my first monster hunter. Always fancied them, just never got around to one (mainly as they seemed like another grindy timesink).

For 16 quid, thought why not?*

*Because you have about ten other grindy timesink games going on at the moment, not enough free time for even one of them - and that's not even including all the grindy timesinks that are sitting unplayed in your backlog, you fucking idiot.

It's grindy at the end, but I love the journey to get there.

Oh, and I'd probably be up for some coop shenanigans if anyone is down with completely carrying a party member more likely to blow them up than the monster (I'm assuming that's possible; even if it isn't, I'd still find a way).

@AboutHalfaStevas what weapon are you using?

I am half tempted to get this again on PS4 digital but then i would also quite like god eater 3 at this point.

Not even at the point where I've decided which weapon suits tbh. I've tried ranged and a big fuck off sword in the practice range. Just did the tutorial mission where you clear out some big lizards with... Some sort of gun thing, and as I say, at this point it became clear I didn't seem to get on with the controls.
    TL;Dr I am a complete n00b.

    PS4.

    Main tips
-look to keep upgrading your weapon and armour
-look at monster strengths and weaknesses in your Hunter Notes, and try to match your weapon to counter them
-don't rush through the story quests, take time to hunt the same monster a few times and you'll find it gets easier, and you'll get the materials for weapon and armour upgrades
-take potions, steaks, nullberries on quests
-watch some of the Youtube vids for new players

    @Alastair
Thanks for the tips! When you say match your weapon, does that mean players generally don't "main" a weapon type? Or did you mean you customise it to suit?

And yeah, the dialogue in this is fucking awful. That intro. I was sitting there thinking "I've made a mistake". And it was only 16 quid.

    Players 100% main a weapon

    #Hammerbros4lyfe

But you can upgrade and build new weapons n the archtype constantly which have different attributes.

You can definitely main a weapon type, but you should aim to have multiple different lances/SnS etc.
e.g. the pukei pukei weapons do poison damage, which is pretty handy. Anjanath has the fire element etc. So, if the monster is immune to poison, don't use a pukei weapon.

I main lance, with a side order of bow. And a soupcon of switch axe.

    AT Nerg is a beast!

If regular Nerg hits like a truck and tempered hits like a train then AT Nerg hits like something I don't even have a reference for.

I think the move where he swings round and flicks the tail at you is new. One of the other ED does it though.

Only had one more run at it afterwards and it did not go well for long. Soon as the mantel goes out destroys a full health bar.

I did ok on my first run. 20 min and broke a horn.
My armour set was high on health recovery. Fortify skill is worth gemming in as faints are a certainty!
    More practice required..

    He suddenly went proper bonkers!
Was doing ok at first, horn broken then fainted.
Have the Fortify skill so thought I would get on ok. He did about three psycho dive bombs and fainted again. Managed about three more minutes before final cart. He was thrashing about like a loon.
Do the monsters calm down if you leave them alone for a bit?

Was a time when we just couldn't get damage on it for a good 3 mins as Nerg was leaping round like a loon and the damage sent us running fur heals. Feels good facing a scary Nergigante again!
