About to take on ajanath. Got a full leather set for armour as itís got fire resistance after reading it fires fire at you. Do elements work like other RPGS in that water beats fire etc? Or is more nuanced than that? Sporting a bone sword at the moment but might forge and upgrade a ore sword for water for the fight

In general they do, bit your best bet is to look through your Hunter Notes and you'll see the weaknesses of the monsters to each element.
This is why gathering tracks etc, and visiting the ecologist guy is important.
Hunter Notes also shows the item drops from monsters, in case you didn't know.

Thanks. Yeah I seen element break downs in the notes but being that they only update after your first encounter (I think they do at least, or can you find enough tracks to level up your notes before you encounter an enemy?) it would be ideal to pre-emptive them. Doesnít matter in the long run and as you read and learn but thought it may save some time!

Caved and got this today. Played through the base game for a fair amount of time though canít remember my HR, think i still had it when behemoth was around.

Whatís iceborne like to jump straight in to? Iíll likely need some training on easier monsters to get the feeling back...

Built almost all of the Zin-super gun build yesterday (missing a Kirin tail for chest piece these and a couple of minor decos).

First run took it out against a tempered Barioth. Killed it in 20 minutes with 2 carts, although it was pretty touch and go at the end. Pretty good fun, but need to understand better why I wasn't shielding more hits.

How nasty is Blackveil Vaal Hazak?

I didn't think he was that bad. You need full miazma protection.

I know you've tried and given up in IG, but having changed which bug I use with mine, from blast dust to heal dust I'm using a lot less potions. Fills the gap whilst working towards getting health augments.

Heh! I've pretty much always used a Heal bug. I love that little guy.

Actually, I'm currently grinding to upgrade my fire IG in order to take on BVH..
I used IG to take on Velkhana as the ice beam just destroyed me first two attempts with lance. Did her first go with the IG because I could jump over the beam, plus the healing.

/considers investigating gems to keep IG charged longer..

Yeah, I had that on an earlier build and I do miss it on my current one.

Blackveil Vaal Hazak goes down to my mighty Fairy Stick of Fire (Lohenspire) with only one faint.

Catching up, going to tackle that tomorrow. Efluvial Res is a given, but is Elfuvial Expert useful ?
    Guess I'll find out.....

    I didn't have effluvia resist.
The description suggests it's most beneficial in Rotten Vale...

This game is brilliant. Diablos just got involved in a turf war with a monster I was tracking.

One of them prevents the chip damage, the other stops your health halving. Don't forget you can use torch pods fired into the ground to burn away the chip damage mist.

As I was using fairy wand, I was able to leap gracefully away from the clouds of nasty gas.

Yeah, Efluvial Expert and one Divine Protection pretty much nullified the tick damage. 32mins, no faints, no hassle.

I'm finding these sub-species are a tad underwheliming.

The monster list in general is a bit underwhelming as it's either sub-species or returning monsters. Still some great fights and the returning monsters are much better in this engine but could have done with more new monsters.

It's more the lack of moves and behaviour changes that they needed. There seems to be one or two new attacks, but as they feature in the same predictable combos, there's nothing that's surprised me so far.

Seething Betelguese actually felt easier than a Tempered version for example (though I may have read it's had an egg nerf ?). It's the increased HP and the tankiness that's really bothering me though - all parts broken, smashed up, stamina drained, and I know it'll still be another 5 mins of twatting ahead.

Maybe just a lance (low deeps) thing, so time to get better armour and a bigger stick.

I still canít get the clutch claw down. Luckily im an IG main so not too bothered by it but when i go back to switchaxe it could be handy.

    Nargacuga down, glavenus next!

Lance has a new move which allows you to clutch/shield, rather than the R2/O shield-auto attack thing. That's definitely what he does at 3.31

Ground based clutch is hard on IG, but you can also clutch when you are mid air whirlybirding. Although the mid air R2 attack does 2x 200 hits, which is nice.

That's how I imagine I'm playing all time. :) (a lot slower, and at 1/3rd of that damage)

As Bron says, the claw is an alternative to the counter thrust - and I've been trying to fire it for ages and wondering what bloody button triggers it. Hadn't twigged it replaces the attack doh !

Going to farm some midtier beasties for a while, get some better gear, and save the new Water Elder for the weekend.

Yea i need to give it a try more, back in to the game since i think deviljho was introduced so just remembering IG well enough currently.

It feels like a new game again though and is nice to get back in to it all. Actually looking forward to ebony odogaron as always felt good beating the regular one, the bastard
