Couldn't see a thread for this one... anyone excited? I played the original for an hour or so and thought it was terrible, but the trailer for the sequel looked great. So far I'm definitely on board. |

Hopefully thus one will be playable offline... -

Registered 12 years agoThree very good points there
Handling was what put me off the original, so yeah I hope it is better. And agree that I'd like to know the structure, the first sounded interesting and a racing game RPG with planes and boats and shit just sounds like crack to me, so hopefully it has similar hooks. -

Registered 16 years agoPlayed an hour of the original (thankfully without having to buy it) and it left me completely cold. The precise mix of dudebro aesthetic, poor handling and rubbish career structure required to completely alienate me.
A sequel would need to make a very compelling case built around "being nothing like the first one" to tempt me into a purchase. -

Registered 18 years agoI quite like the racing in the original, but the story is absolute bobbins. Just give me an arcade racer FFS.

Registered 5 years agoI have played the first game and I've got it free you know when AC Unity was full of bugs and glitches, Ubisoft compensated us by giving away a free game of our choice (I chose The Crew at that time). It was good to start with but could have had a bit more work as I feel the game was rushed.
In this sequel I think it's absolutely not necessary to include helicopters and jet planes, I'd just stick to being on the road.
Just hoping this one corrects all the things that weren't right in the first game for example the handling. -

For all its flaws i really liked the crew. The world was ace. Excited for this especially given the emphasis on exploration/challenges and the arcadeyness.

Registered 12 years agoYeah if it is actually full on arcade handling I'll be very excited, nothing really has that at the moment.
I'm getting tempted to go back to the first and persevere to get an understanding of what did work in it. -

Registered 12 years agoI've completed the first one (and got the Platinum trophy) and enjoyed it. You can see the influences of both TDU2 and Driver:SF (both of which I also completed). I'm liking the look of the sequel, though I'm not sure if there's supposed to be any link to the first one or if it's completely separate. -

Registered 16 years agoI think I was one of the few who loved The Crew. Just a great chill game cruising around taking in the sights. Multiplayer was fun too. Shame it was only 4up. -

Registered 15 years agoI completed The Crew but never got my head around the meta game of controlling areas & getting the in-game currency
Only played it as a single player game though -

Registered 12 years agoI jumped back in for an hour last night, the interface is very confusing, I spent twenty minutes thinking the only events I could do were delivering crates because I couldn't understand the map. And one of those events just would not give me a line to follow, so I was stuck not knowing how to get over a river, I spent a good 5 minutes driving up and down trying to find a bridge to cross. I also forgot how bad the handling is - it basically would be at home in a GTA or a Watch Dogs, it's got nowhere near enough nuance or depth to be engaging as a racing game on its own.
I was also listening to Waypoint discussing the sequel, they'd played a small demo of it. Apparently the handling felt equally generic and vague, which is worrying. -

Registered 14 years agoThe Crew would have been alright if there was some racing in it not endless minigame events for car parts and some shitass "story" bullshit, if the economy wasn't deliberately fucked to make you buy things with real money, and if it wasn't so cripplingly Ubisoft that it even had towers to fill in your map dots.
So y'know, if it had been Forza Horizon instead, basically. -

Registered 6 years agoI never once spent real cash, or ever had the desire to, the towers were utterly irrelevant to any gameplay or exploration, the minigames were integrated quite nicely in to just normal driving around imo, and the handling, once I got up a few levels was fine.
Not as good as Forza Horizon, obvs.
Not saying having crap handling as any part of the game is a good idea, mind... ;D -

Registered 14 years ago@LittleSparra I never spent any real money either because fuck that. I was just perpetually annoyed at how much absolutely anything cost vs. the amount of money normal activities awarded.

Registered 12 years ago@GloatingSwine - I've got every car in the game and they're nearly all upgraded to at least level 1299, all without spending any money to buy in-game currency, because that's not something that I support. Send friends on missions for some free money. With that and daily salary, I get about 240k each day (and it could be more), plus what I get from whatever events I may do. -

Here's the thing though. All those sources of money? Don't come from player activity in game. They're just from either existing or from some metagame with no involvement.

The primary source of in-game cash should be in-game activities and that should be balanced so that there's a reasonable and rewarding sense of progression and, in a game like this, collection. Given that I'd cleared out all activities in the first two areas and been able to buy IIRC one extra car that was not satisfying (nor were most of the actual activities).
The Crew was so fucking obviously balanced to squeeze the microtransactions (like the perks, which IIRC you couldn't get max of without paying), and the little teaser of premium cash to let you get used to spending it (one of the classic free to play tricks, that). If you tried to play the game and expected playing it to be rewarding in terms of progress you were out of luck. -

Registered 6 years agoI really didn't ever feel any pressure for MTs. I barely even noticed they were possible. I also got plenty of moolah from just driving about doing shit. Story missions gave a fair whack, iirc. Played to level 50, explored pretty much the entire map, finished the story. It was not obvious to me at all. -

Registered 15 years agoReally enjoyed the first a lot so I'm looking forward to the second. I never completed the first but still play it. I sometimes just fancy crusing around or doing the odd mission or the mini games. The new one looks really cool. -
