There are people online suggesting Retro aren't the ones making this, though. According to them, it's being internally developed by Nintendo in Japan. -

Retro haven't released anything since 2014, I'd be very surprised if it isn't them developing 4. -

Registered 5 years agoA top secret Switch project that they started shortly after finishing Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Whatever it is, it's been in development for a good 3 years. Unless projects have been scrapped or ideas have evolved.
Worst case scenario they hit a brick wall and scrapped years of hardwork and are just starting on something else. -

Oh, also... I am very, very happy by this news! I've been wanting a new Mtroid game for so many years and I'd completely convinced myself that Nintendo weren't announcing anything new this E3. Then they showed Kirby for 2018 and announced a Pokemon entry for next year too before saying that this event is mainly focused on 2017 games so figured that would be the end of the announcements. When they then showed some space stuff I thought it was really cruel of them to tease anyone expecting Metroid in that way and then the music started and the 4 appeared and I freaked out! Couldn't really pay attention to the rest of the show to be honest. -
