So I moved from 1080p and got the Acer Predator XB271HU (Not that exact one the TN version) I put Dishonored 2 on with the screen set to 144hz, Gsync on 1440p, it looks like its running at about 40fps, stuttering all over even though Gsync seem to be working using the game mode thing, I set the frame rate limiter on Dishonored to 75fps, again, the monitor is showing it's gsyncing to 75fps but it looks like shite, like its lower than 60fps and theres screen tearing, I put put the FPS limiter to 60fps and it's smooth as a whistle. I thought I had a reasonable grasp of the concept of this tech but clearly not, I was under the impression I could stick it on 1440p 144hz, crack on and the screen matching the refresh would make it all nice and smooth without dicking around. What do I do when I play the vast majority of games that dont have FPS limiters in them? Cheers Edited by INSOMANiAC at 16:08:08 06-07-2017 |

try some of that? -
@INSOMANiAC Pretty sure you turn off any sort of frame limiting if you have G-Sync.Make sure V-Sync is turned off in Nvidia control panel as well.

Registered 13 years ago@SpaceMonkey77 Thats the least of my problems at the moment, although I just played Doom at 1440p 144hz 144FPS and it was very nice, not sure how GTAV will fair though -

Registered 13 years ago@Blackmarsh63 I didn't have frame limiting on, the screen was adapting to the FPS but it just looked like shit, its only when I limited the FPS to 60 that it looks good. -

Registered 13 years ago@THFourteen yeah it's all set up correctly but cheers. It makes no sense to me, when vsync is off in dishonored you have to set a frame rate limit, I set it to 120 and the game is running around 90 and looks like shit even though the gsync is working, I set it to 90 or 75fps and the monitor is refreshing at the same rate but again, looks wank like it 30fps. How the fuck can 75fps look shitter than 60fps!?! I set the fps limiter to 60 and it's fine, nice and smooth 60fps.
I know I'm repeating myself but my understanding was that gsync makes everything smooth. If I have the frame limit set to 120fps, the game is running at a consistent 90ish and gsync is on, it, it should look and play smoothly shouldn't it? -

Issue with the game maybe? -
@INSOMANiAC See how you get on with other games. Dishonored is poorly optimised on pc anyway. I've had GTA 5 running on the same monitor and it was perfect. -

Registered 13 years ago@Blackmarsh63 Ok panic over, Gtav runs smooth as butter at around 90fps and looks amazing. -

Registered 13 years ago@THFourteen yeah seems that way, I wasn't convinced gsync would be as good as it was bit seeing it in action on gta, it's a game changer -

Registered 15 years agoIf you've definitely tuned all frame limits and Vsync off software side, try a different game. Dishonored 2s engine is ropey as fuck. -

Registered 13 years ago@Duffking As I say, works fantastically well on GTAV, tried it on Hitman and the results arent as impressive, it works but theres still some stutter in the market scenes, perhaps because the framerate is so wildly variable there, I'd much rather play at a locked 60fps than have a higher frame rate and occassional stutter though -

Registered 13 years ago@brokenkey 1080ti, It seems it varies from game to game, however playing Dishonored 1 at 144fps 1440p has made me slightly erect I have to be honest. -

Registered 14 years agoGsync/Freesync is when you have a variable frame rate in a game that is frequently at low frame rates (perhaps < 75fps).
If you're playing a game that has consistently high fps (say, locked to 144fps or or at least always above 90fps) then gsync/freesync won't be too noticeable.
Examples:
you play Witcher 3; frame rates range from 40-80 = good candidate for gsync
you play Overwatch; frame rate always hits 144 = not much point using gysnc
Whilst gsync will still do a job at 144fps, if you turned it off portions of the monitor are updating so rapidly that you're far less likely to notice tearing anyway.

Registered 13 years agoI've noticed when Im scrolling up and down websites, things on a white background, or in particualar white on a coloured background leave a trail when I scroll, this didn't happen with my previous TN panel, or maybe it did and I didnt notice it, seems a bit shitty though given the money I've spent. I've yet to notice it in a game.
Edit - ignore that I had pixel overdrive set to extreme. Turned it completely off now.

Registered 13 years ago@THFourteen I can have them, I just have no idea how to use them effectively. Again, Tomb Raider, looks much better at 60fps than above it using gsync, makes no sense. Anyway, I shall figure it out. -

Registered 18 years agoFunny example, but one of my favourite uses of the tech is for stuff that runs at funny refresh rates in MAME. Playing Image Fight or R-Type smoothly is terrific. The lower input lag helps a lot too - you've got a great monitor. -

Registered 13 years ago@thelzdking I don't personally believe those pixel 'unsticking' programs work, I've tried them on everything from psps to monitors. If it was me I'd have sent it straight back. I was dreading getting either that or a lot of back-light bleed, but I've been very lucky in that regard -

I think you're right. I've had stuck pixels fix themselves in the past, so I'll give it until Monday and send it back. -
Im very confused as to what the fucks going on with this thing, In battlegrounds for example, I want it running at 60fps all the time as 70-80 look sshit even with Gsync, I turn Gsync off, set the monitor to 60hz, put Vsync on, so I would assume the game is now locked to 60fps, but no, its still 70-90 and I dont seem to be able to change it. What the hell?
