talk of Gremlins 3 is finally real and original screenwriter Chris Columbus has written a script. Columbus says his script returns to the macabre tone of the original film, whose monster murders were so intense that it, along with Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, pressured the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating. Gremlins 2 was rated PG-13 ..... Gremlins fans are also worried that a new film would use CGI gremlins in place of the puppets. Columbus assured fans the film would still use puppets, but visual effects could make puppetry easier to achieve than it was in 1984. Gremlins 3 is now in development at Warner Brothers. http://www.slashfilm.com/gremlins-3-has-been-written/ |

Registered 8 years agoCue the inevitable 'they raped my childhood' douchebags that will soon the flood the Internet. I'm going to sit on the fence with this one. I for one love the original and I think it doesn't get enough love these days and kind of seems partially forgotten. I'm just wary since the unfunniness that was Ghostbusters 3.

INot convinced by the second one to be honest. The first is a perfectly good self contained little world of its own.

Registered 15 years agoI think with these old movies being such a product of their time they should just be left alone. How are its it that these things go well? That said, I'll go into it with an open mind. Time will tell i guess. -

Registered 5 years agoGremlins 2 was arguably a spoof of the first movie anyway. It was more or less a barrage of fourth-wall breaking moments coupled with whatever random stuff Joe Dante could think of. -

Registered 15 years agoIt's not the same thing, but things like Rocky Balboa and Trainspotting 2 show you can do some justice to the originals with late sequels, and add some value to the franchise.
But that said, there's nothing more that needs to be done with this, other than perhaps clarify exactly when 'after midnight' ends, and what happens when you cross time zones etc. -

While that sort of whining also drives me up the wall it's difficult to avoid these late sequels and reboots/remakes feeling like nothing but quick and easy cash grabs.

Entice the older public with nostalgia yet also appeal to a generation that thinks films created pre-2000s are too ancient to be worth watching, all that and not even having to bother producing anything really new or original. What's not to like, right?
But yeah, wait and see I suppose; some have indeed worked out well. -

Registered 6 years agoHopefully they explore some of the lore with this one. The second was very much a spoof aimed at children but the original was pretty hard scfi. I've been to a number of Gremlins conventions and some of the debates on lore can get pretty intense.
I'd suggest anyone who thinks the Gremlins is just a kids movie needs to read some of the extended universe stuff. Tim Malcoms "Two Minutes to Midnight" is pretty much my favourite book. -

On that point and I'm sure very un politicaly correct of me but when I play online with French people (the French love Gears) , I just hear minions now. I know they (yellow dudes) speak minionese but it very obviously is bastardised French.

Isn't the novelisation actually meant to be pretty funny?
