So having remade Ghostbusters with a female cast and a female led remake of Oceans 11 on the way, it seems that the latest film to get a vaginawashing by Hollywood is "Lord of the Flies". What the actual fuck. |
WTF Hollywood.

Possibly not, but I've just had my daughter staying with us for a week and had to put up with many, many hours of discussion about sexual equality, womens pay, feminism, whatever stupid test there is about whether or not female characters in films talk to each other about something other than men etc. so I'm feeling more than a little rebellious. -

If you mean "whitewashing", that's when you take a white actor and give them the role of an ethnic historical character.
I can't remember either the Ghostbusters, Oceans 11 or Lore of the Flies to be historical.
They're fictional characters! Who care what color or gender they have if the acting is any good? -
Don't you just hate it when Microsoft is xboxwashing your PC. -

I got no issue with directors trying out shit like this, as long as it's done well. The latter is usually the problem...
OG Lord of the Flies (to speak US-TV talk bullshit, as that's the parlance we are being sucked into urgghhh) is not going to go away. -

Registered 16 years agoRemake what you want with whatever cast you want as long as you make it good, preferably in the spirit of the original but sometimes it can be better to move on. Still be good though. That's key. Make good movies. -

Registered 15 years agoTo use the phrase 'vaginawashing' is akin to making a 'white lives matter' type point.
If you don't recognise the difference between an agenda to better represent an under-represented or oppressed group, and the intentional replacement of an oppressed group with a privileged one, then you are truly an absolute fuckwit. -

I'm not opposed in the slightest to the current trend for remakes, but some things should just be left alone. Even William Golding apparently said that the story wouldn't work with girls. -

Registered 16 years agoSurely a female-centric Lord of the Flies is the ideal movie for sexists? It'll be 2 hours of women getting slowly more sadistic and unreasonable before killing each other. -

Do you have nostalgic memories for a piece of literature or pop culture that you hold dear?
Have no fear because Hollywood is here to lay a big steamy turd on your memories and do it to the soundtrack of White People dancing ironically to 90's hip hop or Taylor Swift. Please be sure to download our companion app sponsored by Toys made by Chinese Children and Sugary Tooth Decay. -

Because Hollywood is terrified of new ideas in case they can't market the merchandise or sell it to the Chinese.
Why don't they just make an original film with women, these female gender remakes are just box ticking and lazy. -

This thread can only end well.
Two points. 1, does it fucking matter? No one is forcing you to go see it. Not seeing it isn't condemning womens rights, in the same way not seeing IT isn't condemning clown rights.
2, maybe you need to take a moment a read what the fuck you wrote before you post it, and then consider what the main topics of conversation are in society before you come across like a bigoted prat.
