    Lady of the Flies, shurely?

    Never heard the term vaginawashing before. I lold.

    The good thing is that reimagining films with opposite genders also works both ways. I can't wait for the all-male version of Steel Magnolias.

    @Load_2.0

    Can't say that I have I'm afraid. I've heard that Americans and the Brits are raised on it as part of their high-school curriculum.

    I've only seen the movie and made my claims based on that knowledge.

    Why do you ask? If there's a reason I'm wrong and why I really should read it, I'd be happy to hear it. The movie was a while back too, but did find it fascinating.

    Haven't heard of vaginawashing either, but nevertheless I'd jolly well hope it's been happening everywhere anyway thank you very much.
    France excepted, obviously.

    They'll only stop making these kind of films us if they all start to bomb big time. Ghostbusters did but they still carry on.

    Actually, the Vagina is self cleaning. You shouldn't VaginaWash! Upsets the careful ecology. Real men don't mind. We're dirty fuckers.

    I had no problem with Ghostbusters other than it being dreadfully unfunny, I was also confused that it went with the whole alternate universe thing

    Just wondering what the reaction would be if a well known/liked all female book was gender swapped.

    I'm guessing most normal people wouldn't really give a shit. Does it really matter that Ghostbusters or the new Oceans 11 film have a gender swapped cast? Personally I don't give a shit although I think these kind of examples are cynical in their planning in order to capitalise on a trend as such

    I think Hollywood as such is experiencing a distinct lack of originality currently and is obsessed with bankability as opposed to genuine artistic content. I get it, it's a business and money needs to be made, however unfortunately it has lead to what we call 'reimaginings' as they call it. Essentially rebooting known properties but with a quirk in order to appeal to whatever trend or fad is popular at the current time. I would rather that original stories were made but here we are. For instance Sony had been trying to get Ghostbusters 3, as it was called, off the ground for aaaages, but they couldn't get anything to stick. A cynical person would believe that they went with a female cast as a calculated move more than anything and hoped that would carry it along, they kinda forgot about making it funny.

    OP comes across like the Daily Mail.

    When oh when will this nascent gynocracy be halted before it erases all elements of masculinity from classic works of art like Lord of the Flies and Oceans 11.

    Seriously, who gives a fuck? You don't have to go and see it.
