Surface Studio looks great, but have very weedy processors, unless MS have beefed them up and I missed it. Not a great comparison.

New phone arrived yesterday, just waiting for the number to transfer over but I can say without hesitation that this is a much nicer device than my old 6. Very nice to use. The FaceID stuff is nice and seemless. Winner.

I've just done the opposite and replaced with 6+ (which was fucked) with my wife's old 5. Because I'm a tight fucker :)

    My X arrived on Friday.
FaceID set-up and use has been seamless and I've had no problem adjusting to losing the button other than having no quick way to return to the home screen from a different page on the dashboard. Maybe there is a way that I'm unaware of but I just rearranged my icons so that everything I use regularly is on the top page, either separate or in folders.

FaceID has "failed" two or three times, though one of those actually worked part-way through entering my code and unlocked before I could finish.

Otherwise I like it a lot. I came from a 6 Plus so the size was a bit weird to start with, especially getting both my fat thumbs on the reduced keyboard. The screen looks a lot nicer and the "feel" of the phone is really nice.

I doubt it'll sell anyone that doesn't like using iPhones but if you're already invested in the eco-system it's a decent addition and upgrade from where I was.

I'm still finding Face ID to be way slower and less reliable than Touch ID. About a 10% failure rate, increasing to 60% in bed (no idea why, maybe it doesn't like my lamp's glow), compared to 0% on Touch ID.

I don't miss having a button at all, but Face ID is definitely a step down. Also the control centre being in the hardest spot to reach is stupid.

    Wouldn't go back though.

Swiping up from the bottom on any dashboard page scrolls the dashboard to its first page.

Also, when on any dashboard page, swiping up and holding enters the application switcher.

Makes sense. I knew about the app switcher.

I love this new future where you can buy a phone at double the price of a normal one and be relieved that the one new thing it does is totally less annoying than people make it out to be.

I love it, size/screen is fantastic, faceID works brilliantly, itís fast, solid, great camera, looks great. So glad I bought one.

I played with once in the store because I was curious about the swipe controls. They were really nice and I can't wait for Android to implement then as well.

Agree with all of this apart from my FaceID seems to have got noticeably slower over time.

I have to get it ready well before approaching a ticket barrier now.

Maybe your face is still contorted with the effort of the 15 min struggle to put the Switch back in your bag?

I like it. Feels really weird going back to a button now. Only real gripe is that Face ID is way less reliable than Touch ID (80% vs 99.9%).

I find TouchID very unreliable thanks to the nature of my work so 80% would be a huge improvement

I think Face ID is cool and all, but usability-wise it's a dead end. I'd much have preferred to have both face and touch.

I almost always end up having to input my code when in the car (I have a holder on the central console). It either can't see me, or I'm wearing sunglasses or I'm simply looking at the road. Touch Id would solve this by letting me blindly touch the button. Here, I always need to look away from the road, hoping it'll recognise me (10% of the time), and then inputting the code. Not cool.

Plus the thing with sunglasses. Summer is coming and I'll fail to recognise me every time when I'm out.

You know what people will usually say to that though, and it's "stop fucking using your phone while driving"

I think with apps like waze and spotify itís not unusual to unlock you phone whilst driving. Anyway there is already a demo phone out there with a touchID like sensor under the screen, I think the iphone will eventually end up with both sensors.

@dominalien Did you disable "Require Attention for Face ID" in the settings?

If you're using it for directions it'll already be unlocked, if for Spotify it'll just be running. Neither explains using the phone while driving.
