| Yeah I loved Metal Gear Rising. Never had any issues with the bosses besides the final guy. He was a pain in the ass for me. |

Registered 11 years agoOooh. Nice list.
I still haven't beat Orphan of Kos on Bloodborne. Only gave him a few tries though. Should go back on that...
Is the Nameless King in Dark Souls 3 really that tough? I have beat him loads of times (it is one of my favourite fights, so I used to hang around there waiting to get summoned)...
I am currently stuck on Demon In Pain / Demon From Below on Dark Souls 3 dlc. They are tough. Pretty much a greatest hits collection of Dark Souls low blows there (double bosses, respawning, elemental immunities, spammy rng aoe attack etc)
The Bayonetta Jeanne fight on Hard difficulty was also a good one. I think I actually entered some kind of real-life-bullet-time trance during that fight... -
I've just realised I've not played any of the souls 3 dlc. Jeez and I call myself a souls fanboy *hangs head in shame*
I will start another playthrough once I'm done with Bloodborne again. -

Registered 11 years agoThe Souls 3 dlc is fun... not sure how long the second dlc is though, as I am stuck at the first boss(es)...!
That's it. I am going to boot up the PS4 now and give them another try.
I may even have to change my character out of her 'thigh-high boots, enormous hat, and a bull-whip' combo into equipment more suited to a boss-fight 😜 -
The thing about the nameless king is that his timings are all set to mess up experienced players, there are a bunch of delays to catch out rolls where they would naturally be against other bosses. Plus, the hit boxes are proper weird at times, his attacks vary from quick to slow all the time and there are a bunch to punish estus uses.
He is one of those bosses that can go down really easily some times and be total arse for hours depending on the flow. Last time I played it a month ago I spent an hour doing okay but failing and then the victorious one I used three estus and one of them was for the dragon section. -

Slight bit of advice for Demon Prince, they are very susceptible to bleed.

Registered 11 years agoYup. I can see what you mean about the timings on the Nameless King.
I am a lower skill player who favours low armour / high stamina builds. So bosses where you can get away with spaming roll and sprinting around are easier for me than they are for players who will be more tactical and contolled with their approach. I am missing the subtleties... -

Thanks. I heard they were weak to Dark. So I have just spent a ton of Titanite and a gem to forge a pair of Dark Boxing Gloves.
So far my attempts to pugilise two cursed dragons into submission are not going particularly well. But I will persevere.
Ding Ding! Round 3. -
Doom 1's Spider Mastermind?? That's one of the easiest bosses in history! Just stand in front of it and empty your plasma gun, done. edit: God knows why they thought Doom 1's final boss was harder than Doom 2's.
And then there's not a single boss from the R-Type series. I believe you could fill half the list with those and Mega Man's.

Registered 9 years agoJust had a quick look at the top 30 and yeah, only done three of those! And only one in the top 20, and then that (Emerald Weapon in FFVII) was in the PS4 release when I had god mode on and had unlocked Omnislash, and even then it was still difficult!
Other two are The End and The Reaper from Persona 3 which were tough but can definitely think of tougher bosses I have beaten. Those are both very long fights though so well worth their place. -

Registered 15 years agoSome really frustrating bosses in that list but the best and least frustrating thing about that boss list was I didn't have to load 10 separate pages or see flashing ads while reading about all 100 bosses. (Yikes, what a long sentence!)
Thank you, Vulture! -
Shao Khan in MK3 (and to a lesser extent in mk9) always struck me as rediculous, does a ton more damage to you than you can do to him, felt lucky if I could get half his health down
Never managed it on the megadrive version, even with 99 credit cheats -

Registered 18 years agoGlad Alma made the list and Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. Never finished it thanks to that final boss.
Hardest boss levels ever? God Hand. I like to mention this game every week. -

Registered 20 years agoOf all the Atlus games to bring up, Catherine gets a mention?! Most Megaten games have superbosses that counter all but the most precise of tactics with total party kills... And then there's Etrian Odyssey... -

Registered 16 years agoDefinitely a few missing there (and it's light on old PC games). I'd particularly emphasise:
Kangaxx - Baldur's Gate 2 - Liches are among the hardest enemies in BG2 and even getting to the Kangaxx fight requires fighting two of them. When you finally fight Kangaxx himself, he spawns first as a higher-level version of a regular lich and then, when defeated, respawns as a demi-lich. He can cast unlimited imprisonment and death spells and has a dense web of defensive buffs that need to be unpicked before you can even hurt him. Beating him requires a high level party, high-end gear, careful preparation, intimate knowledge of the game's systems and a bit of luck.
The Lich King - World of Warcraft - They seem to have opted for C'thun as their lone World of Warcraft representative (and likewise a single fight from Final Fantasy XI), as otherwise the top half of the list would be stuffed with entries from those two games. While later patches substantially nerfed him, the 25 man version of the Lich King fight that came at the end of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion was guild-breakingly hard. That's before you even got to the Heroic version, which many guilds spent literally months attempting with no kills, until eventual nerfs made it less extreme.
They also seem to be missing the whole bullet-hell genre, which is a bit of an oversight as there are some real horror-bosses to be found there.
Also, how the hell did Spider Mastermind from the original Doom make the list? It's much easier than the Cyberdemon and shouldn't be a problem for players who have already made it to the game's last boss. -

Registered 9 years agoHahaha, I remember Kangaxx. I don't remember exactly how I beat him, but remember the cool ring you get from doing so.
In BG1 it's probably Drizzt. Though I guess he's not a boss as such, because he's a good guy and you're not supposed to kill him. But it fit my evil run in a roleplaying sense, so kill him I did. His loot was so, so very good. -
I am surprised sister fraiya (probably wrong name) didn't make the list. She is the only souls boss I have summoned (an npc ) for.

Registered 14 years agoSome good choices on that list, some weird ones. I think a boss can only be called "tough" if it's still difficult even after you know how to beat him. In that regard, most Destiny bosses for example wouldn't fit the list. Well, Skolas is indeed a bastard, but the double nerf made him a lot easier to take on.
Unfortunately they only focused on mainstream games, otherwise I could think of a million other bosses that gave me trouble. Skeith from .hack//Infection, any of the bosses from the Serious Sam games, the Fool from House of Dead 3... yeah, too many. -

Registered 14 years agoI have different opinions on the Doom bosses, I thought the Cyberdemon from Doom 1 was a nightmare and in comparison the Spider Mastermind was cake. But in Doom 2016 while the Cyberdemon was hard, once you learned him it wasn't so bad, and the Spider Mastermind was always much harder.
I also realised fairly recently that I used to be far better at the old MKs than I am now. I could routinely beat the game on my PC keyboard as a kid but I revisited them a few years ago and I'm lucky if I can string a few wins together let alone reach the bosses.

Registered 20 years agoOn the subject of Doom bosses, there's a level in Doom 2 that pits a Cyberdemon against a Spider Mastermind. The Cyberdemon wins 90% of the time... -

Registered 14 years agoI've found all of the bosses in Doom to be painfully easy, because you get to fight them in giant arenas. There's a reason if Quake decided to switch to puzzle bosses.
Now, when you meet cyberdemons in later episodes, that's when things get a lot tougher...

Ahh Fire Leo, I remember reaching a zen like state when fighting him, just activating slo mo at the exact moment. Actually fuck it, Viewtiful Joe boss fights always required a zen like state. Damn that was a good game, the sequel did nothing for me though.

There was a 'God' Hard mode
Anyone who has tried Vanquish on god hard mode knows the truth.
I completed Vanquish on Hard and the last boss took me about 40-50 tries to finally beat him, it was insane. To say I was elated at the end would be a massive understatement. Screw anything harder than that though!
