Just got out of Thor: Ragnarok! An utterly brilliant, barmy and ridiculous film. Loved it!

Wouldn't say it is the best of the MCU, but up with the best less serious films like Dr Strange, Guardians 1 and 2.

(Searched and couldn't find a Thor thread...)

It's a solid film, was surprised at how sneakily the trailer was cut; ended up being surprised that most of the key events I presumed were going to happen either didn't happen, or occurred different.

I felt the writing had some real difficulty balancing death/loss with slapstick comedy, as a result some scenes fell flatter than banner.

Kate Blanchett's Hela made me feel things... deep suppressed things. The film makers insistence on showing her slowly strutting pressed buttons I didn't knew I had.

Loved some of the minor characters, the polite rock chap went from being 'this is stupid' to 'I fucking love this guy!' during the course of the film.

So it's an odd film in a lot of ways, but super enjoyable with a ton of great one-liners and characters. Probably up there with the best Marvel films for me (higher than say, Dr.Strange).

Seeing this on Friday, loved the first film, the second is still probably the worst Marvel film to date

That usually happens when the trailer is issued then the film goes through a final round of massive lifesaving editing before release.

Absolutely loved it, the trailer editing was superb in how it completely misdirects anyone watching it.

I thought Korg was Rhys Darby but was pleasantly surprised that it's Taika Waititi himself.

Could well turn out to be my favourite MCU film and I'll certainly be watching it at the cinema again.

I thought it was great, really funny script and fantastic use of slapstick to deflate people when they thought they were being cool, and some super fun action scenes.

Also, I like a more talky Hulk.

Still does't beat Guardians as my favourite Marvel movie, but it's up there.

My son was basically Thor for the six hours after leaving the cinema to going to bed. He role played the final battle on the bridge about fifty times whilst I blasted out immigrant song. :). Got him an awesome regnarok t shirt as well!

This was a film about very good looking people looking cool while kicking ass. Lots of posing, gazes towards the camera, slow motion shots of people looking sexy and cool while they did cool actions.

I enjoyed it a great deal

Yep I'll admit I went a little gooey when Thor was topless. Hot.

I hope they don't kill off all those Asgardians just so they can give Thor a dramatic entrance in Infinity War. The last section of Ragnarok was all about saving them so that would make it all feel a bit pointless.

@Scimarad I suspect Thor will take a kicking so they can escape, with Loki taking them to Earth (leading to Misunderstanding). Given the Significant Glance Loki gave the Tesseract in the vault he's almost certainly pocketed it, so that will put at least three Infinity gems on Earth making sure Thanos takes an interest. (Four if Heimdall makes it there and has the Soul stone letting him see everyone in the nine realms).

Just out from it. Liked it a lot but tonally very different to Thor and the Avengers films due to all the humor. It doesn’t quite sit right, IMO, but it’s still very good despite that.
Doesn’t quite earn the big event moments as a result but it sets up some interesting stuff ahead.

I really enjoyed it. Sure, it's funny, but the action scenes were also well crafted, more visually interesting than the last few Marvel films.

Although the comedy was more pronounced I still think it fits into the Marvel canon very well, they've always had humour.

Quite like that with this and Homecoming, Marvel seem to be doing better with villains. At least, I think so.

Cate Blanchett was excellent, but she always is.

For me this was infinity better than avengers and the older Thors for that exact reason.

As I said, I enjoyed it. The humour doesn't ruin it or anything, and it is funny, but there's a tiny bit too much of it that it becomes a little too distracting from what is actually occurring on screen at times.
85% of the humour was perfect for what the whole franchise is/does. That extra 15%, while still very amusing, just tipped the scales for me, changing characters a little too much or getting in the way of the actual event taking place in that it lost some of the tone required to actually sell them properly.

It surpassed the GotG films in the amount and type of humour, and I don't want/think Thor should have done that, essentially. Quill and team are those characters, we didn't need a second GotG team but that's where this film seems to have ended up, practically character for character when you look at the final crew standing on the deck of the ship.

I also think it'll feel even more out of place once Infinity War is out, in terms of Thor's character and arc.

Feels like there was a memo to 'make sure there's a joke every 2 minutes, regardless of what else is going on in the scene' at some point
