Hellraiser 1 and 2 were great fun and has increased my interest in more of Clive Barker's work. Any recommendations?

Recently saw Rose Red by Stephen King and it was mediocre at best.

Stephen King? Oooh - so many - I'd say that Pet Sematary holds up as a creepy film. The Mist was also great - try to watch the black and white version if possible (if only because CGI looks even ropier in glorious technicolour). Also lots of 'guilty pleasure' films, such as Creepshow and Cat's Eye.

As for Barker, I also loved the first Hellraiser (even some of the sequels were fun) - Candyman was also fantastic.

Nightbreed is a pretty good film, as Steven King stories go, the book is better. I’ve not seen it on the TV for decades I think and if memory serves the dvd is not readily available cos for a couple of quid or a fiver or so I would buy it. Got a feeling there are some rights issues that prevents its general release or something.

I think the Shawshank Redemption is good but a bit over rated. Stand by Me and The Green Mile stand up pretty well. The Running Man is great for a bit of dystopian shlock.

@freddymercurystwin The book was written by Clive Barker not Steven King. Clive Barker also directed the film.

Good point, well made. I'm just thinking about Judy now.

Lord of illusions by Barker is ok.
Definitely Nightbreed. I love that film.
Hellraiser III is just about passable.

Obviously, Maximum Overdrive is Stephen Kings best film, he even directed it. Not that he remembers doing so because he was coked out of his mind.

@MrTomFTW It could well be, it's decades since I saw it.

Stephen King's best film is The Shining directed by Kubrick. But because King is mental he doesn't like it.

    @MrTomFTW

It's a weird one as the film could be a lot better but I really dug the lore behind Midian and Cronenburg was great in it. I totally get why some will think it's shit.

I think Clive Barker wrote Candyman which still holds up pretty well.

I think The Shining is pretty overrated and that's even before getting into what a terrible adaptation it is. I watched it again last night and started with the opinion that I would now actually quite like it but by the time I'd got about 2 thirds of the way through I was back to disliking it again. I enjoy it on a technical level but it's a terrible watered down version of the story. And, no, I certainly don't think that mini-series was better.

Surely Weaveworld is worth a film adaptation at some point. Then again, considering what happened with the Dark Tower...

I think of it more of a cult horror, bunch of mates around to crack wise about it type film than something like Hellraiser 1 which is a properly good film that can be viewed at anytime

There is a version of the shining that's faithful to the book.

    It's shit.

Reading 'The Books Of Blood' there's so many great stories that could be adapted. The Midnight Meat Train wasn't bad, had Vinny Jones in it.

Always loved Creepshow, there something so deliciously B movie about it.

Definitely give it a watch OP, avoid Creepshow 2 though, utter shite.

And of course The Shining has to be seen.
Creepshow 2 has the cigar Indian in it right?

The Dead Zone is one of my go-to King movies, what with the Walken-Sheen-Cronenberg combo.

The rest of Creepshow 2 is a bit wank, but The Raft segment is brilliant.

@Addy_B I really enjoyed it. The trailer gives most of the film away, but it is really quite unsettling throughout with some good scares along the way.
