I would say Horizon. It's got robot dinosaurs. There's no beating that. |

Registered 17 years agoNo. Horizon was only so so for me. I’ve enjoyed all of the Ubi open worlders more than Tsushima. Watch Dogs, Far Cries, Ass Creeds, Divisions. Witcher 3 obvs. Red Dead Redemption 2. Skyrim with the new graphical upgrades if you can count that. Breath of the Wild. God of War if you squint a bit. Spider-Man probably too now I think of it. Does Control count? Tomb Raiders? They’re open ish. .gif)
In that company Tsushima is an accomplished but unexceptional AA effort. And I say that having enjoyed it a great deal. I can like it but recognise it’s not top tier.
Opinions though, eh?.gif)

Registered 8 years agoYeah, I think the combat and art style carry Ghost past its pretty generic framework. -

Registered 4 years agoOh god I forgot breath of the wild, yeah definitely that! Witcher 3, botw, rdr2, ghosts.
I hate Unisoft open worlds games generally, well the ones I've played. I haven't played any of the latest ass creed games from hating the ones previous. I hate everything far cry since 2. Control, gow and tomb raiders don't count. Yeah Spiderman was excellent as well and would probably be in that top 5 next to ghosts.
The divisions I guess is kinda open world and I did enjoy 2 a lot, was just a bit soulless even though the combat was good fun. -

Registered 6 years agoBest mechanics and gameplay in an open world game for me. Falls into the Ubisoft shit a bit too much by the end but the gameplay puts it head and shoulders above other open world stuff for me. I'd put it miles above Horizon and it's one of my favourite games of the generation. -

Registered 4 years agoOf course I'm only at the end of act one and I might think worse of it come the end. Zelda was pretty much perfect until the final maybe quarter of the game.
Edit..the ghost combat is comfortably the best open world combat system ever made.

Registered 17 years agoI’d bounced off Ass Creed, but got Origins on the cheap and then 120hrs disappeared. Fucking loved it. But sure, I know Ubi games aren’t for everyone.
There are some off the wall choices like Elite and Subnautica that are different kinds of open worlds too. Then there’s the other AA crew like Rage 2, Just Cause 3/4, Borderlands 3, etc. Etc.
So yeah. Really liked this, but it’s lower order for me this gen. -

Registered 4 years agoMaybe half way through act 2. Except for the occasional mess up I'm a bit of a beast now. Got the mystic armour at level 3 and unlocked every parry ability so I can just walk into the middle of a Mongol stronghold now and just butcher everyone without having to move much. It's quite refreshing being so powerful in a game like this.

But yeah game does power really well and different types of approaches too - mine was mainly like yours and the ghost armour approach with 3 insta terror kills is great for this too as the meter fills quick -

Registered 4 years agoGetting the mystic armour was the first thing I did in act 2 so straight away I rode all the way to the north of that area so I got to fight several enemy types that were definitely harder than further south. -

Registered 17 years agoI find the notion of NG+ strangely tempting with this one. If I had any confidence that the save game would transfer over with the (hopefully) inevitable PS5 patch I'd be excited. :/ -

Registered 4 years agoOnto act 3 now. I am definitely one with the force in this, the combat flow is beautiful. Pretty much just doing main missions now otherwise I will burn out. -

Registered 6 years agoYeah they're all pretty good. You normally get some decent armour or something from them too. -

Registered 17 years agoSometimes the individual missions in them aren't the best, but the through line of the stories are worth the effort for sure. As a rule they're usually better than the basic side missions (the icons without faces) that you can discover.
I went back and cleared them all up *after* I'd finished the main campaign, but on reflection it would've built to a more satisfying crescendo if I'd done them alongside it. -
