I think some EG madman must be wearing Duffman's skin and pretending to be him. ;-)
I'm really worried. This Duff must be going insane ;)
Hehe Only just seen this :)
I'm doing well lads, I bet when it goes to shit, which it probably will, I will buy 20 odd games inside of a month :)

There's a lot of anti-Nopon sentiment around here.

What gives? Did they make them more annoying? I only played the original Xenoblade, I could tolerate them, Heropon Riki was a mainstay of my party. (Really he's equivalent to a Final Fantasy Blue/Hedge Knight, a status effect specialist, I found his buffs and de-buffs very useful.)

I find the Nopon amusing and charming. So there.

@Cappy The one in XCX was okay from a humorous point of view. I liked the potato jokes one of the other members made. Howevfer he got on my nerves a bit by the end. The one in this one is just annoying and occasionally cringily creepy... to me anyway. So yeah, they're more annoying. Main thing I hear in battles is "Meh Meh", "Meh, Meh, Meh" and "leave it to Tora". I wish I could leave the spud.

Anyway, each to their own and all that. For me, I think Kotaku's review of Xenoblade is spot on, the game is just... boring. Fights take too long, cutscenes happen too often and take too long, anything with your inventory takes too long and is convoluted, finding something takes too long (if you're not 1 shot on the way). I utterly loved XCX as well, but this is just a chore. I'll probably stick with it, but possibly only the main story and then only to see what happens. Pyra's about the only character in the game I give a toss about so far.

    Back to the actual thread...

    0/10 :)

I think I might completely implode at this rate. At the bare minimum February will bring me Bayonetta and whatever I get from my brother in law. Iíve still got a big chunk of vouchers for Amazon which was going to go on new trail shoes, but given I think Iím better of popping to the local ASICS outlet, should I bung the lot on games?

You wait, Iíll be on four/FOUR/4 come March and Iíll feel like Iíve let you all down.

I'm pretty set on buying MHW once I sort and move into a new apartment. It'll be my consolation gift to myself.

Itís quite hard going back to my 3DS(s) to clear backlogs even of games I enjoy.

Thereís this nagging voice in the back of my head that keeps telling me itís old hat and I should buy something new and shiny for the Switch despite there being not much I want to play on it right now.

I bought Sleeping Dogs again (had it last gen). Couldn't resist as it was really cheap and the DLC on PS3 was never on sale, so £4 for base + DLCs and a slight upgrade was a no brainer.

    3 games bought this year.

Good shout. Fire Emblem Conquest just wasn't grabbing me.

Started this last night, played a couple of hours already, seems fun so far.

Any beginners tips? Need to dig out the thread i guess

DQVIII is one of the best games of the PS2 era.

It is a fairly simple game. So you should not need much help. Only tip I can think of is trying to kill metal slimes with a single powerful hit before they run away.

It is one of the few games that got a British translation (as well as a separate American one).

/It is actually the only one I know of.

Was pretty tempted by a cheapo copy of Evil within 2 over the weekend, but currently playing through Until Dawn at the moment and felt like getting another horror game right now would be a bit much, so stuck it on my wishlist.

Probably would've just sat on the shelf for at least a month before starting it.

Anyone played it? Not played the first but heard this is a big improvment

Do you mean the voice acting?

The US version has entirely the same voice cast unless they entirely changed it from the PS2 version in the handheld version.

I'm still on track for the new Kirby game being my third purchase of the year. I spent the weekend (between playing Splatoon for hours) thinking about what pc gaming is for. Playing games, obviously, but which type?

I'm all about city builders, economic sims, tycoon and management games. I like to build things and systems rather than destroy them. I had a look at the current crop of transport / train games and the genre has seen a resurgence. There's Transport Fever, Railway Empire and Rise of Industry, Mashinky. All of them appear to have their issues (depending on who you ask) or are early access.

One thing that annoys me about researching games is that online comments invariably range from 'this game is completely broken' to 'this is the best game ever' and it can be hard to know what to think. Reviews of very niche games often fail to highlight significant issues that would bother the more serious genre fan.

For example, Railway Empire appears to have serious design issues and is being massively criticised by hardcore fans of the genre as being far too simplistic but it has had fairly good reviews and a lot of people seem to enjoy it.

tldr; I'm thinking about buying a new game but haven't as it's hard to tell if it's a good game or not.

I used to LOVE a transport tycoon back in the day. Played it for hours and hours and hours.

Still fun to play on iPad now and then.

MHW is looking like it will keep me busy for the rest of February. So I should remain on 2 for a while.

However a friend is threatening to lend me Shadow of the Colossus on PS4. I assume this counts as number 3, even though I own the PS2 version.

    @THFourteen

I tried OpenTTD and Simultrans but the shonky road and rail building controls put me off. No one has managed to make a new game that's the equal of Transport Tycoon, unfortunately. I'll probably get Transport Fever but I'm waiting to see if a forthcoming patch improves late game performance.

British voice actors (or British sounding) have picked up a lot of work since the bad old days of the PS1. American audiences seem to accept it for games with fantasy type settings where American accents might not fit the tone of a fairytale style game like Dragon Quest VIII, Ni no Kuni and Folklore are other good examples.

I have never noticed the building controls being off in OpenTTD. It's been an age since I played the actual original though.

Might fire up another game actually...

Edit: also, I never built those crazy 16-way junctions with a billion traffic lights. I am always far more direct and unambitious. Maybe that has an influence on my reaction to the controls.

The iPad version was ass though, way too simple for me.

For a while at my old job we had an OpenTTD multiplayer server that ran at lunchtime, half a dozen players in the office plotting down roads and trying to get as many train routes going as possible in 30 minute sessions each day

    Was a lot of fun!

    @LittleSparra

I meant that the UI doesn't compare well to more modern games. It works but there are so many clicks. All I want is a good transport game with a decent UI and easily routed tracks and roads.
