    Poetry eh?
While I will admit it's my first viewing of this game, I haven't got a clue what the fucks going on and it looks mind numbing... enjoy though

It's a bit of a grey area actually. The thread title itself actually just says "Buying Only 10 Games" and there's an argument to be made (that I'm now swayed towards) that Monster Hunter World is one game, even if bought on two platforms.

    Which dovetails with compilation releases,
Actually it doesn't. In my mind compilations are an edge case. An outlier. They make up a fraction of a percent of the games released in a year.

For simplicity - we're calling them one purchase. The argument that *might* be made is that you count each one you play, but then half of the fun of compilations is the nostalgia factor. So basically: we could be dicks about this, but the mission here isn't to be the fun police.

BTW, cut another notch on my gun belt please, I'm up to three purchases now.
    *shakes head*

EG user Insomniac actually live streamed me playing it last night - something I had no idea was a thing on Steam - and without context of the tactical nuances it must absolutely have looked like a load of old shite.

@Cappy "Of course double dipping counts, what is purchased is irrelevant, ten copies of FIFA 19 is ten purchases, that's your ten."

Got to disagree with that. Ten copies of FIFA 119 are ten copies of one *game*. The intention of the thread is to encourage people to make the most out of each game that is purchased, and to devote the time necessary to them, rather than chase every shiny new release. It's not about saving money.

This is also why DLC doesn't count, and why double-dipping doesn'/shouldn't count. Both are in the spirit of the original idea of the thread.

It's like that judge that said they couldn't define pornography but they knew it when they saw it. We can't define every case for every purchase but it's easy to tell when people are, in jest, trying to subvert the spirit and/or the guidelines of the thread.

In that case remasters of games you aleady own shouldn't count either. And possibly sequels too.

I think the thread title needs updating to reflect all these subtleties, does the forum allow full paragraphs?

Okay, fair enough. I have double dipped myself but I'll abide by my own rule and count it as three notches.

Hang on hang on hang on.

Does this mean we're allowed to buy Dark Souls Remastered and it won't count? I've always wanted a portable Souls game...

I think remasters are counted as separate games. Double-dipping is where you buy the same edition of a game on two platforms, to me at least.

It means that if you buy Dark Souls Remastered on PC and on Switch, it would count as one. It's a remaster/remake, like Shadow of the Colossus, so it's a new thang.

But it will count because, technically, it's new.

And hey! If you're gonna play the SHIT out of it, isn't it worth one of your ten?

Sigh. I suppose, if I were honest, I would agree.

Will have to actually get around to modding the original on PC, I guess! Rules is rules.

Or just wait till next year.

Or just buy the remaster, if you really want it. The penalty for going over the ten is not death, as far as Phattso has let on ;)

Going over 10 reduces next years allowance to 5 games. Choose wisely!

If you use up your 10 slots and still want to get a game, you can cut off a finger as penalty

Choose wisely though, might make your new purchase harder to play

Might go on a double-dipping spree tonight. Doom, Stardew Valley and Steamworld Dig on Steam, HERE I COME.

Heh. I don't regret buying it, but I do wish it floated my boat a bit (lot) more.

But I'll have to live with that decision. Important lesson learned:

developer pedigree + awesome genre + effusive reviews != guaranteed smash in Phattsoville

I made my first purchase of the year picking up the classics PC bundle. I bought it just for Shadowrun Returns as I am trying to get my head around the TTRPG version. So my purchase was for research purposes so technically doesn't count.

Stop looking at me. Shut up.

I cleared Wolfenstein The New Order and Ashes of Singularity from the backlog.

Tempted to pick up Hellblade as it's the PSN deal of the week, really like the look of it but I'm yet to complete a single game this year, my backlog is still full of great games I'm yet to play from last year. The struggle is real.

@Switch024 I know what you're saying. I've just added Hellblade and H:ZD into my basket. I'm leaving them there for the moment...

@wuntyphyve Horizon is one of those I've already got in my backlog, I did actually play about 10 hours of that though which is a lot more than most of the other games I bought last year. I was enjoying it too but ended up buying another new game and never went back.

Have done quite well not buying anything this year but I think Hellblade might be short enough for me to actually rinse over the course of a week.

Regarding versions of games on multiple consoles.

For me it depends on the definition of a backlog. I personally define backlog as been a game I own but have not completed.

In my opinion buying a backlog game again on a different system does not count. Even if the second purchase is a superior version. So I would argue that if I bought Skyrim VR it would not count as I have never completed the original. (Note that I am not planning to buy it).

Whereas buying a remastered version of a game you have already completed and/or do not currently own does count. So if I bought the Shadow of Colossus Remake it would count even though I have the PS2 version. (Note I do intend to buy this).

Or if you rebuy a game you have abandoned and sold that would count.

I really want to get Shadow Tactics in the current XBL sale, but I already have Pit People, Torment, and Steep to finish/exhaust from last year, plus Rime to battle through (really not fun enough, despite being gorgeous, will probably drop it). Boooo to this challenge! Boooo!

It'll likely go on sale again at some point and at a lower price still.

Well I've joined the SHAMED THE DUCK, BUT THERE'S STILL TIME FOR RESTRAINT club.

Brought Celeste earlier on a whim. My third purchase.

But i also joined the THAT'S IT! NO MORE! STEEL YOURSELF! STAPLE THE WALLET SHUT. CANCEL THE CREDIT CARDS! club. Not only once......but twice.... and with a fat dollop of SELF RESTRAINT IS SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS TO OTHER PEOPLE on top too.

Because i treated myself to a Snes Mini. Where do we sit with that? Haha. I had a pretty good week, where i have had an art exhibition with a couple of friends and a job interview today (First one in a while, which sadly i don't think i did that well at, started off well, but struggled towards the end drawing a few blanks and starting to repeat myself). But you have to treat yourself when you do good things right?

So far in 2018 I've only bought two games: Civ 6 and Nioh.

Games I'll certainly buy: Red Dead Redemption 2.

Massive backlog, including both games I haven't finished (BotW, Persona 5, Xcom 2 and Deux Ex: Mankind Divided at the top of the list) and games I'd really like to replay (Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne at least).

Oh and I'm still only a few hours into Demon's Souls after all these years. Perhaps my greatest gaming sin?

Currently playing Battlefield 1 really isn't helping either.
