Perhaps a bit early but thought may as well create it now with the other similar threads floating about Rules are whatever you personally want them to be - be it aiming for all trophies/achievements, or when you feel you have completed it by reaching the end of the story etc. |

Registered 9 years agoHa, those other threads can quietly die now I guess (including mine), as you've very charitably made this one cover all bases...

Ok, since I couldn't hope to get through 52 games, I'm posting 10 games I own, have never even installed, and commit to complete in 2018:
Rules are whatever you personally want them to be
Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag
Bioshock Infinite
Child of Light
Dead Space 2
DA: Inquisition
The Turing Test
Metro 2033
Saints Row IV
Sunset Overdrive
The Escapists
Bonus/Stretch targets:
Divinity: Original Sin
Earthlock: Festival of Magic
Fable 3
Gears 3
Grow Up
Lords of the Fallen
Ryse
For me, "completed" is main questline/end credits seen. I reserve the right to abandon and replace anything that doesn't do it for me (especially at risk: Saints Row, Sunset Overdrive, LOTF, Ryse) -

My "rules" are when I'm done with it, e.g. if I finish the story but have more grind stuff after the game, it's not done until I officially put it down and move on to the next.
Haven't got near 52 games in the three years I've done it, I literally use it though as a way to try and clear the backlog and just as a running record of what I've played that year
My record so far is 37, 37 and at the moment looking like 30 for this year! -

Registered 16 years agoMy first few months of gaming in 2018 are inevitably going to be fixed around finishing up games from the back end of 2017. My "actively in progress" and "on the backburner" lists are huge at the moment. I'll probably finish a few of them before the end of the year, but certainly not all of them. Stuff currently on the go (ordered by how actively I'm playing from most to least) is:
1) Total War: Warhammer 2 (finishing up a Dark Elf co-op Vortex campaign, with plans to go into a Mortal Empires co-op campaign as soon as we're done with it).
2) Forza Motorsport 7 (about half way through the main championship events, but with lots of achievement chasing still to do as well).
3) South Park: The Fractured But Whole (around 6 hours in and enjoying it now after a rocky first two hours where I struggled to warm to it).
4) Blue Reflection (apparently I'm about half way through this with 8 hours playtime).
5) Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (my current Sunday afternoon comfort-blanket JRPG, which I gather I'm just over half way through at 35 hours playtime).
6) Call of Duty: WW2 (A couple of hours in. I'm guessing it's the usual 6-8 hour campaign so should be over well before the end of the year).
7) Middle Earth: Shadow of War (6 hours in, enjoying it, but rarely seem to finish open world games like this).
8) Divinity: Original Sin 2 (2 hours in. Looks lovely, but also looks like it needs a lot of focus, so saving it until I've finished or dropped some of the games above).
9) Wolfenstein: The New Colossus (6 hours in but cooling on it fast - may get dropped).
10) Mario Odyssey (played 2 hours and already a bit bored, so it probably goes on the backburner for my next long plane/train journey).
11) Fire Emblem Warriors (think I'm about to drop this; the combat mechanics are only middling as Musou games go).
12) XCom2: War of the Chosen (currently parked to see if Long War 2 is upgraded for compatibility with it). -

Registered 9 years agoI got bored and started Black Flag last night, so my 2018 starts and finishes on December 23rd now. It sure does have a nice tropical vibe! I'm only about an hour in, but so-far, so-Assassin's Creed, which is fine by me.
Also, started and promptly abandoned Gears 3 last month, so that's off the list. I'll replace it with whatever I impulsively purchase in the Xbox sale after a few Christmas sherries. -

Registered 15 years ago2017 was my highest total reached (currently 41 I think). Hopefully get a few more done before then too. I tend to count by completion date though as my goal ia to actually finish thinga even if the majority are started and finished in the year.
I want to get some more partials finished next year though. -

Registered 9 years ago@One_Vurfed_Gwrx should be my highest too, literally hit 37 all three years I have done it, not on purpose either as obviously that's a weird number to aim for! But should finish Life is Strange: Before the Storm today so that will put me past it, wahey! -

Registered 15 years agoI think mine is usually about 34ish...
Too many massive rpgs/vns really kill it. Having at least two 100 hour+ games this year didn't help either. -

Registered 9 years agoYeah I think if I look at the games I have played this year, even reaching the same number as the last two is impressive as most of them are 40 hour plus games. JRPGs being my favourite genre certainly doesn't help the cause! -

Brilliant game and packed with content and replay value. -
1/1/18: Beyond Eyes - 8/10
A very slow paced walking simulator about a blind girl looking for her lost cat. It has a great way of uncovering the environment and a nice watercolour style. Only a couple of hours long. I enjoyed it but certainly not a game for everyone. -

I really wanted to enjoy (experience ?) this but I was ultimately underwhelmed, shame as I would think the developer made a very personal game. -
@DUFFMAN5
It is very slow paced and like you say, not for everyone. It does get better after the first twenty minutes and it looks quite lovely. It certainly made me thankful for the gift of sight. It's one of those games where what it makes you think about is more important than its story. -

Registered 9 years ago#1 - 01/01 - South Park: The Fractured But Whole (PS4)
Bosh! Took me about a month to get started last year but just played about a third to a half of it today.
Probably not as good as the first one but still brilliant overall, loved it. -
2018 List
1/1/18: Beyond Eyes - 8/10
3/1/18: Papa & Yo - 7/10
A nice looking 3d puzzle game that takes place in what looks like a Brazilian favela, where a young boy goes on an adventure to escape his abusive father who he sees, quite literally in the game, as a monster. Despite its heavy theme it has quite a lot of enjoyable puzzles and a very nicely balanced hint mode for when you get stuck. There are one or two tedious parts but on the whole it's not too taxing. It's one of those 3 to 5 hour games that are best played in one or two sessions. -

1. 7th Dragon III code: VFD. 3DS. Really entertaining JRPG with a bananas plot and really fun combat system. 8/10. -

The story is great and very entertaining, incredible attention to detail in the world design and has some superb set pieces. A great shame then that the game itself is a bit lacking. The level design is often repetitive and confusing (there were far too many times it took ages to work out where to go), the guns and controls feel very loose and imprecise compared to the likes of Destiny and Titanfall, and it has invisible walls, which is unforgivable in 2017. -

Registered 14 years agoFive days into 2018 and I haven't finished a single game yet. Or even bought any.
This year isn't starting well. Or maybe it's starting exceedingly well, depending on your perspective.

I am prob having a semi forced break from gaming for a week, so thats annoying. -

Registered 9 years agoI've stalled on Black Flag, going to try to get through some Game Pass games in the next month before the "try it for a quid" runs out.
Flame In The Flood and This War Of Mine are both tempting, but I'll probably get bogged down in Phantom Pain instead, and not finish anything. -

#01 04/01 Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus (PS4) - 7/10
#02 06/01 What Remains of Edith Finch (PC) - 10/10
Picked up in the sale on the back of its 2nd place in the EG top 50 knowing nothing about it. Absolutely astonishing. Sort of a halfway between Gone Home (which I liked but didn't love) and Dear Esther (which I thought was utter shite), but substantially better. I wasn't overly sold at first as the controls are a bit shit (though it is a walking sim so not a massive deal) and the first sequence is a bit pants (the Molly one), but where it goes from there and some of the later sequences, particular the Barbara and Lewis ones are breathtaking.
