The older I get, I find that I want less stuff, so I prefer digital in general. I'll get a physical game if it's something I doubt I'd ever replay eg Pokémon but the last gen persuaded me to go mostly digital.

I'll hold on as long as I can, if they can still put vinyl records in shops physical game releases should have a place for a while.

I can't see myself investing in digital, I'm from the era of ROM piracy, I'm not used to paying for games you download. I suspect that anything bought digitally would get forgotten and never played just like those ROMS.

The only reason I'm still buying physical games is because of the silly price of digital games on most stores. With mandatory massive installs from discs and day one patches it's pointless having discs taking up storage space when they pretty much just act as an activation key.

It's not even for new releases that the price difference seems such a anomaly. My local branches of Game and Grainger will gradually scale back prices as titles age but I would bet that FIFA 16 still costs at least £40 digital even on last gen

I rent all of my games where possible, so very much in the physical media camp.

Digital is the future. Embrace it!

It's a bit of pain at times not being able to sell a ton of physical games to pay for new things but everything else is just more convenient. I wouldn't go back.
I was game for MS's digital future proposition with the XO. Allow them to remove licences for a % of wallet cash, like they already do with the refund scheme essentially, and you have a 2nd hand market selling keys back to the marketplace for money off the next purchase.

    ALSO

while we're shitting on console digital titles - LA Noire on the Switch

The download is bigger than the entire available storage on a brand new out of the box console

    Fuck off

@Derblington is that convenience worth paying an extra £20+ per title?

I quite like being able to borrow/lend games with mates too, particularly single player games.

    Is that still a thing?

I don't. Digital is roughly the same cost as physical here - essentially everything is sold at or around RRP.
The UK is somewhat unique in that supermarkets drive down the price of retail so significantly that it really warps the view of the cost of v.gaming. It's very difficult to compete with on a wide scale.

Account sharing can replace that. Granted, one game at a time but it's there.

Still about 95% physical as its so much cheaper if you don't buy at launch - which I never do

I just get anything I REALLY want to play after a month or two when they are usually sub £20

Everything else I pick up sub £10 once no one else is buying them

Suppose I better put my tuppence in being as I started the thread.

These days I'm about 70-30 in favour of digital when buying for my current gen consoles. I'm a lot more cautious when buying games these days, so unless I'm absolutely sure about a game, (usually down to how confident I am that it'll be something I'll keep), I will buy physical media - but it has become much rarer of late. Generally it's digital purchasing for me.

I don't buy physical films or music anymore so have no doubt that, in time, this will be the same for my console games. It's already a reality for my PC gaming so I'm quite happy to indulge in a 100% digital market for console gaming.

The file size for LA Noire is 29gb and there is a 32gb cart available. Rockstar dropped the ball there, I think most would be willing to pay a few quid extra to get the whole game on one cart. Did they really cheap out on a smaller cart?

Definitely have been moving towards digital, only bought one on release as £55 is still way too much, if they were around £40 I would probably get all but major games like Persona etc as digital.

I buy physical copies when I know I'll blitz through the game or get bored of it easily. Or it'll hold its value like GTA 5 as it's easy money later.

Massive games I normally go digital. Fallout 4, Forza Horizon 3, the division etc

And if something is super cheap digital I'll go for it

I'm 99.99% physical. Only bought Cuphead and Sonic Mania digitally because I had no other choice.

Boxed. I like to recoup some £££ afterwards.

I'm disc then if I play it a lot and always want to have it, buy digital copy in a sale, sell the disc to recoup some money. Digital is so throwaway that I never feel comfortable spending so much on games that way, sale or nothing.

I don't see digital as worth the money. A bit like ROMs.

If digital prices were the same as actual disc games I would probably buy a lot more, as it is they are too expensive.
I also have no interest in keeping games or replaying save for a select few, so will end up selling or trading them, obviously can't do that with digital.

Another one for the digital if the prices are reasonable bucket. Always buy steam games on PC.

But Switch is a different story. Games are far too expensive and I can’t be bothered to faff with other stores, so I might as well just buy and trade them when I’m done. Also if the 3DS is anything to go by, old games will still be expensive in two years time, unlike steam where you can pay £10 for an old game.

Physical. I've bought some digital and felt like I've wasted my money to a degree as it tends to be more expensive and has no resale value.

New games, pretty much 100% physical as Amazon are generally 10-15 quid cheaper than a digital storefront.

However, I buy 9/10 games on digital storefront sales, which are at that point in their lives cheaper than buying the disc and infinitely more convenient.
