    Skirlasvoud, brevity.

I don't think I'm alone in skipping your walls of text. It's a discussion not an opportunity to repost Wikipedia.

I hate this meme. On the one hand it ignores a lot of history, and on the other is arrogant in the extreme to claim a similar level of sacrifice and struggle on the part of current antifa.

But Antifa isn't an army. They are the English Defence League of the Far Left.
If Antifa wins they'll go back to smashing windows. If EDL win there will be death camps
Not sure about that, if EDL wins there will be a rise in the stock price of Stone Island, at the very least.

But was it EVER great? We shouldn't be swept away by Romantic nostalgia of a past that never was....
    It's true.

Do we really want to go back to the past of curtains and mittens? Do we want unregistered users begging for CD keys, and talking about donits and whether or not games have motorbikes in them?

Were those times really that great?

niteninja is still around in the comments.

Actually, all three are still around to varying degrees. Fruit is probably the one around the least!

I don' think this comparison to the russian revolution holds true. That(and the Chinese internment camps) were the results of a shift of power. Afaik Antifa aren't interested in taking power. They just want to make sure fascists wont get it.

Revolutions are shit though. Biggest asshole wins. See the arab "spring" and how that panned out.

That's the point, it becomes an arms race to the bottom with the end resulting in no winners. Violence begets violence.
That is somewhat the point of antifa, though. They aren't looking to win anything, just stop fascists from being able to rest and pull themselves together.

I mean, it's not exactly been a blinding success on that front, but I don't think that's all on them.

But their violence nourishes the Far Right, that's my point. By all means protest against something you disagree with, but resorting to violence then undermines your own credibility and allows your opponent to spin their position into one of moral superiority.
That can be true in some instances (the Berkley riots were a tactically bad idea for that reason imo), but in general it works pretty well. The fact that you don't hear about most of it is testament to that.

It's not my kind of scene, but I knew people involved in that kind of stuff even on my undergrad in the early 2000s. The antifa name might be new, but people have been doing this stuff for a very long time now.
