I have gotten used to the current prices, an increase would not sit right.

Although based on paying £45 a pop for Megadrive games I recognise that the prices should have gone up in the 25 years since then.

Saying that my colleagues cannot believe how much Switch games are and think they should be under £5 each in line with mobile games. They all wanted a Switch and Mario Kart but were simply not prepared to pay the game cost. (Silly thing is quite a few of them would be happy paying over £400 for the Switch itself but want game prices to be a pittance).

Thing with music is these days for a minimal outlay, if the talent and skill is there, you can produce a product that sounds just as excellent as a major label, major artist release.

Whereas with a game no amount of talent is going to let you make something with the production values of a AAA title with two guys and 50k from Kickstarter.
That was always the case though. Elvis and Cash didn't come from a lot of money. They literally just wondered in to a recording studio.

The power always rest with resources for marketing and contact to push. That is still the case. You can be an indie on Spotify. You could sell your own CDs at your gig

@Concrete Note a Government Minister jumping to get in on the action there. The forces of populist authoritarianism are on the march right now, buoyed by the religious right, the snowflake left and various forms of assorted fruitcake. An opportunity for Government bashing of games is a heaven sent opportunity for politicians right now.

I’ve said all along that while voting with wallets and causing noisy brand damage are helpful ways to fight loot boxes and the like, gamers will quickly come to regret bringing Governments into this one.

I think I'm too old to buy into the hype so I'm not effected by higher prices or microtransactions at all

They could charge £100 RRP for a AAA release if they want but the market will decide how much they actually sell for

I just play old(er) games meaning that I play everything I want, much later and for very little cost - just started RE7, which I got for my birthday a week or so ago but even that was just £15

Considering gaming addition is a well documented thing.
It does feel a little convenient that gamers have seemingly all turned into puritans when the WoW lifestyle has been a badge of honour for a couple of decades now.
