Nice behind the scenes look at the people behind crypto. The guy is passionate to say the least. Seems a bit down on how it pivoted from a tool for dismantling governments to a get rich quick scheme for techbros.

What a fucking shit show. The block chain is a less efficient way to handle transactions than what we had before. At the same time it has made it easier for scammers to run "banks".

Surprise, surprise, the result was fraud.
Get out of this sht if you're invested. (On the other hand, it seems as if the panic has subsided and prizes levelled out. So this might be the time to invest all your savings. Make sure you trust the middle man though lol)

Coinbase claim to have identified the problem as a change to the Merchant Category Code used to identify digital currency transactions.

The troubling thing is, this is an industry standard code which changed a few weeks back, and at the time all Coinbase did was harp on about the change making it easier for additional transaction costs to be added by banks and card providers.

They don't seem to have realised it actually needed some work at their side to change the way transactions were processed.

It's like kids running the Wild West.

My main takeaway from crypto is that percentages suck.

If you lose 10% of your stuff each day for a week, and then get back 10% each day for the next week, you should be back where you started, but noooo.

    Fuck you, percentages.

Cryptocurrencies are still in their infancy and so is the blockchain tech. I think we've got another 5 years if not more before the shit hits the fan and most, if not all of these coins/tokens will crash and burn. Few will remain.

The vast amount of energy required to mine Bitcoin is what will be it's downfall - you know there's trouble when a country that's sorted out renewable energy is struggling with mining power consumption.

Holy shit you got me. I followed up with more research and get this, they even use EMAIL these days to scam people. It doesn't stop there though, my aunt Doris received a physical letter stating she'd won the Dutch Lottery and to send a cheque to unlock the winnings which she obviously did. Turns out it was a dodgy fraudster. I didn't know these people existed before bitcoin.

419 scams predate cryptocurry scams. I dunno if the bitcoin scammers are still mainly Nigerian though.

HODL was the worst cr*p I ever saw as an investor, same thing happened in the last BTC and crypto cycle of moon and crash. Selling in profit is an important part of the equation.
  • Deleted user 8 August 2018 08:42:43
Selling in profit is important?! Steady on, this is a games forum and not advanced financial investment strategies.
