    Forum Awards 2017 Spectacular!

2017 has mostly happened now. Many, many things occurred, a great number of which weren’t very good. I was going to paraphrase Hitchhiker’s Guide because I thought that’d be lovely, but then I checked my thread last year and I already did that because 2016 Fawkes is always one step ahead of me.

I try to stay positive but if you look outside of the confines of this lovely little forum, I’m pretty sure we’re all doomed and should be investing in the finest fallout shelters we can afford.

But let’s look at the happy stuff! There have been lots of great games out that were well worth playing, and some of the films we’ve had have been pretty fantastic. There was also Justice League.

On the forums, lots of cool stuff happened, though I’m not giving examples because I can’t remember any examples. The Donald Trump thread has been getting a lot of traffic for some reason, as has the Post-poll Brexit thread. We also hit the 10th anniversary of phAge’s excellent technical query thread, which I’ll link to because it’s an important part of Eurogamer history:

Getting audio from my 360 to my telly?

There was also examples of the finest artistic talent in this thread:

    Legends of Eurogamer

My memory is shocking, but I can assure you other things also happened. There were probably ragequits and definitely a couple of bans. Graxlar has now upgraded to version 3 and is one step closer to his FINAL FORM. Things were done by people, and people should be awarded for the things they did, unless they didn’t do them.

So I bring you the sort-of-annual Forum Awards 2017 voting thread! Not only that, but it’s a magical, transforming thread that will turn into the results thread once I’ve done the results. You will be suitably stunned by this magical act. You will also be equally impressed if I can’t be bothered and do a different thread instead because I do what I want.

There was great demand for the awards this year, by which I mean Frogofdoom asked me if I was doing them by creating a thread with my name in the title, which made me crap myself as I thought I was going to read that I had sadly passed away, until I realised how unlikely it’d be that because I reckon no-one would be sad. That’s still a 100% increase in the amount of interest in Forum Awards happening though :)

    What are the Categories?

That’s an astute, handsome question. Much like last year, there will be good sunshine/rainbows/positivity awards, and Cardboard ones. Group of the Year is out because almost no-one submitted votes in it last year.

    Golden Forum Awards 2017

Best Overall EG Forumite – The general award for Outstanding Achievement in the field of Forum Posting. The jack of all trades that manages to be the person whose posts you always enjoy reading. Funny? Probably. Friendly? Maybe. The specific reasons aren’t key here though, it’s the way all their posts blend together to make them your favourite. This is the Best Picture Oscar of the Forum Awards. I don’t want to say the other awards are a consolation prize, but… you know.

Funniest Forumite - The awards for the most purposefully amusing forumite this year. Makes a few jokes. Has a few laughs. Creates hilarity and fun from the worst of circumstances. Do I really need to explain what funny is? I do it every year. I might stop next year and leave you all to figure it out. You’re all smarter than me anyway..

Friendliest Forumite – Alliteration in the award title intact, this award is for the person you regard to be friendliest on the forum. The kind of person that remains civil in the most horrible of threads. The kind of person you’d trust to take your sibling out on a date because you think it’s unlikely they’d even hold hands without protection. The sort of person you reckon would happily say same stuff to your face that they’d say on a forum because it wouldn’t make you want to poke out their eyes.

Most Generous – Some people are great at raining down all their goodies onto the faces, necks and chests of all those that’ll take it. They know people want it. By goodies I of course mean things like steam keys, games and other cool freebies, as they want to be the year round Santa giving generously to all with little or no reward, except possibly having their ego lightly massaged by winning this award.

Thread of the Year - For the best thread of the year. Not sure that needs much more explanation. It’s the thread you thought was best. Same rules as usual – main forum only (no group threads), create or with a notable amount of posts made in 2017. If a threads eligibility is in doubt, just ask :)

Best Eurogamer Moderator – The award for the Mod that sends me money in 2017 since MrTom’s bribes ran out. I’m just kidding! They haven’t run out.

MrTom is the most active in the forum though, so tends to get a big chunk of the votes, but please consider the ninja stealth mods who I can’t even name because they’re ninja stealth mods. They have to have been Mods during 2017.

    Cardboard Forum Awards 2017

Since last year, I actually checked the value of Onyx and it’s too high for these awards, so it has been downgraded to Cardboard. Not even Google Cardboard or a nice sturdy cardboard box suitable for making into the finest spacecraft or suit of armour, but one that has seen a great deal of use to the point its structural integrity is in question. 2 are the same as last time, with 1 switcherooney.

The Unofficial Stephen's (Silliest) Sausage Roll Award - As usual, this isn’t for general, relentless silliness, but rather the person that made a single mistake that has been a source of joy for everyone who witnessed it. I honestly can’t think of many this year, but I’m sure someone can think of something. The award is for the person who did the silly thing.

The Trump Presidential for Excessive Hot Air Award - Presidental. I know. President. That actually happened. In real life.

The award is for the forumite most likely to do 10 pages of gibbering on an issue that could’ve been resolved in a sentence. This isn’t even necessarily a negative. Sometimes it’s lovely to read a massive post.

Wrongest Wronger – New to this year, and replacing “Person You’d Like to Go Away”, is an award for the person who has proven themselves most consistently wrong about things. They’ll state thing that are great are objectively terrible, or maybe they like abysmal things (I’m definitely a shoe-in for loving terrible stuff). Perhaps they give bad advice all the time, or refuse to even attempt to see things as others see them in a debate. They’re just Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

    HOW TO VOTE

To vote, you have to PM me. Only votes PMed directly to me will be counted, as it makes it so, so much easier to count and verify. Anything posted in the thread won’t be counted. I say this every year, and people still post it in the thread. Feel free to do that if you want, but I’m not counting them. Only PMed votes will be counted. If you wish your cote to be public, PM it to me then also post it in the thread.

As I was a bit late this year due to me coming down with a case of Couldn’tBeBothereditis, voting will close a bit later than usual on the newly extended date of the 8th of January 2018.

The easiest way is to copy the list below, fill in the votes you want to and PM it to me. You don't have to submit votes in all categories, or any at all (though PMing me a list of no votes is probably more difficult than just not voting at all so please don't do that). If you change your mind or wish to submit additional votes in a category you didn't vote in the first time, please make this clear by using words. You all managed this very well last time, so gold stars all round :)

Categories for your Copy Pasting Pleasure

    Best Overall EG Forumite
    Funniest Forumite -
    Friendliest Forumite
    Most Generous
    Thread of the Year
    Best Eurogamer Moderator -

The Unofficial Stephen's (Silliest) Sausage Roll Award -
The Trump Presidential for Excessive Hot Air Award -
    Wrongest Wronger

That’s it, apart for all the edits I’ll end up making because I forgot things and/or made mistake. Many, many mistakes. I really hope no-one caught that first mistake I made before I edited it.

Anything less than voting Stefansen for all categories is shameful. Bow to your rightful king, peasants.
  • Deleted user 11 December 2017 13:56:34
Stefansen's been pretty quirky in the beginning, downright tedious now. Tries too hard to warrant any awards imo.

I think GoodForm and SpaceMonkeywould have got a few of those awards, I'm gutted they're no longer with us.

We have lost too many contenders for

The Unofficial Stephen's (Silliest) Sausage Roll Award -
The Trump Presidential for Excessive Hot Air Award -
    Wrongest Wronger –

    in recent months

    Its making choices very difficult.

We need EG's 2017 KPI analysis to help decide!

I don't know, one of the awards could be filled by a certain person who made me really think if Ron Perlman and David Harbour were the same person

Not for years, no. I can't speak for the year richarddavies ran, but no-one votes for kalel as best Mod. He did almost win in the first year he wasn't a Mod, though.

Just because they're not here, doesn't mean we can't vote for them.

    Post-humorous awards are a thing.

I'd say so. As long as they posted a lot in 2017, they're fair game.
