    I do lost run streaks in isaac now, it's not a hard game once you nail it. Gungeon though. Fuck it. It has the potential to be a sensational game, but it simply doesn't reward you for the amount of effort you put in, so eventually you just stop trying.

    Oh, I might have made the original thread come to think of it. It's gone now thanks to craigy.

    I find Nuclear Throne quite similar to Gungeon too as in it's just on the wrong side of punishing (for me anyway).

    Yeah, that's a horrible game. Where this fails at worthwhile rewards, that fails at working level creation.

    Whilst it is bloody hard, I can't stop playing it. I just got to the 4th floor boss for the first time. I'm sloooowly getting there. Some of the guns are great. Just had the proton pack which looked great. Also I discovered my first questionable chest which freaked me out a bit.

    @Addy_B was it a mimic?

    I had a room with 3 in on my run earlier, on the last floor. It almost ended it.

    @Duffking

    Yeah it was. I tried using spoiler tags manually on that but I forgot what the syntax was. I'm not using the app atm.

    Yeah I looked for it yesterday as I could of sworn there was one.

    I found it too hard too.

    Isaac has a steep learning curve, but I remember getting reliably a bit further every few tries to make me keep going. Its massive luck mechanics may help because once in a while you get a really strong combo and get further than ever before.

    In Gungeon, I tried and tried and didn't make any progress. After two dozen tries or so of not getting beyond level 3 (I think) and no noticeable improvement in my performance whatsoever, my patience and enjoyment depleted and I abandoned it. Which is a shame because in principle it's great fun. Maybe I'll give it another try some day.

    My favourite gun so far is still the giant shotgun shell that fire shotguns.

    Apparently it's much easier on the switch due to a load of balancing tweaks. The other versions will get the same tweaks in due course under the banner of easy mode, but yeah, that's why people aren't having much issue with this one.

    @Dirtbox

    I heard there's a big update arriving called Gungeons and draguns that sorts balancing issues and adds extra content. To be honest I'm not finding the switch version any easier than the PS4 version. Maybe it is but I've just gone even more wank at it.

    Might sneak this in as a last purchase of 2018. I'm not sure if I'm taking my Switch with me to see the in-laws yet, but this sounds like it would be a nice temporary escape.

    @Dirtbox do you have a list of tweaks or anything? It doesn't seem any different to me. It was supposed to launch with the new Advanced Gungeons and Draguns expansion but that was delayed, so it launched without it instead. As far as I know it's the same as the PC version currently.

    Edit: Only mention I can find of it is Kotaku who claim that it dishes out a little bit more money, chests and keys but they don't have a source and to me it seems identical to post supply drop update (which made money, keys and chests more common)

    Read about that update now. I'll definitely return to the game when it comes.

    @Duffking

    I found a game wiki entry that details some of the tweaks, although without citing sources. It names "early 2018" as release date and doesn't say anything about the Switch version, and it says it will have a turbo mode with 2x playing speed. If that's not in the Switch game, and it's not called "Advanced Gungeons & Dragons", I assume it's not the updated version either.

    @Dirtbox Any source for that? I've - literally - played the PC and Switch version side by side (I didn't remember if the PC version has such generous auto-aim settings (it has)) and was equally shit at both.

    Yeah, just the kotaku source. https://kotaku.com/enter-the-gungeon-is-more-forgiving-on-the-nintendo-swi-1821468408

    I've not played the switch version at all and the last time I played the PC version was months ago. I'll have a go see if it's easier.

    Interesting read. I'd have to play the PS4 version again and see if I find it harder. One thing on that article says they frequently had well over 100 casings by room 2. This has never happened to me yet. I've definitely not had that much. I generally just have enough to buy a key/health or possibly a cheap gun by the time I've rinsed the first floor.

    Anyway I'll have another do later. Very addictive.

    @Dirtbox Ah, cheers, so the RNG god will be a bit friendlier - that's of course nothing I noticed in a quick comparison.

    Hm. Yeah, it's either easier or I had a lucky run, but first game back after months away and I got killed by the third level boss. That stupid wall thing.

    So I don't know really, I can't say for certain.

    @H1ggyLTD

    I swear, the game itself is superb. Great style, spot on mechanics, etc. My only gripe is the difficulty.

    I am impressed. I can't get past floor 4 on a normal run lol.

    It was a bit of an amusing run because I got the eyepatch off the second floor boss, not knowing what it did.

    Good side: Damage increase
    Down side: Major accuracy decrease

    Later on I got a passive that increases close range damage though so I ended up playing a close range kill-things-as-quickly-as-possible style.

    One thing that seems to me to be the case is that the past bosses don't seem anywhere near as hard as other bosses, presumably because getting there is quite a challenge anyway.

    Edit: Sweet, I just noticed that by beating the past I've unlocked alternate costumes for the characters I've done it with! The soldier gets like a full on suit of medieval armour while the pilot gets sci fi shades and a blade runner style coat!

    I think that Kotaku article might be on the money on some of the changes - I reckon the game is a little more generous with the money drops and I think chests drop a little more frequently too. I noticed chest rooms tend to have teleporters inside now as well if there isn't one in an adjacent room which I don't think used to be the case.
