Thanks, sort by Steam Cloud does not work, it just changes order by something I don't know, but certainly not by Steam Cloud icon.

Hm, it should though, but within your own categories (if you use them).

Quite a lot of games that didn't start out on steam don't have cloud saves.

I remember when my PS3 died in 2010 and I lost every single save I had, at the time I only played games on PS3 and a couple of strategy games on PC. Not a good time.

Xbox One is the gold standard as far as cloud saving goes.

Oh that was the problem, missed that. However, if no icon means no cloud save, I think that's more than half of my list.

@samharper Same happened to me in late 2013, just a few months before the launch of the PS4. PS3 went YLOD one day. "No problem", I thought, I'll nab a cheap slim as a replacement and just move the saves off the disc.

    Nope.

For some inexplicable reason, Sony makes this completely impossible. Drives are encoded to lock them to the specific hardware. You got much less PSN cloud save space back then and so only a small minority of my stuff was on there. With a handful of exceptions, I lost almost seven years of saves.

On PC, I accidentally lost the odd save when migrating over to a new PC and failing to copy a save from some obscure location, but I've never had a wholesale disaster like the above. Even dying hard drives usually allow a grace period where you can still extract most stuff, provided you act quickly on the signs of failure.

As long as the save lasts until I finish the game, I'm ok with that. If DLC releases for a game and I've long moved on, then I'm only likely to get it if it's stand-alone content. If its DLC for an RPG then I'm even less likely to get it as I've likely put in enough hours already.

Rule of thumb: new(ish) games tend to have cloud saves, older games don't. Some newer ones don't because they have their own system (rockstar cloud), it's too complicated (ArmA), or for unknown reasons (Dark Souls 3). Not sure when cloud saves were introduced on Steam?

Steam Cloud started all the way back in 2008, but to my knowledge, only the biggest games used it back then. It wasn't until 2011-2012 that almost everything started to support it.

It's still unusupported for almost anything released before that time (very few titles patched it in), every Dosbox game, and whenever companies think it's not worth the hassle. Which is a very generic description, but there you go.

PC Gaming is such a pain in the arse.
As I have an Asus motherboard I used their Asus Suite software to set the fans, keeps them nice and quiet and works perfectly.
Turns out that a recent W10 update has fucked it and of course there's no support anymore.

Aye, plug 'n' play my fucking arse.

I just spent a couple hours copying across my old Xbox 360 saves to the cloud, so I can access them on the xbone, and get get rid of the 360. Never know when I want to those Mass Effect saves or Gears :)

AI Suite (I think 2 on my Z68 board) was working fine till about a month ago. Now whenever Windows starts I get some random errors. Nothing serious, the sort of dialog boxes you close and ignore.

Given that I was only using ai suite for some fan profiles I will probably just uninstall it.

Same as me then, so how will you keep your fans quiet?
I'll fanny with the BIOS but it never worked as well as the software.
I can't find a version of FanXpert that works either..

I don't think I've looked at any kind of fan profile in 20+ years. Stick the pc inside a Fractal case and forget about it.

It's in an HTPC case in my living room and I like my fans as quiet as possible.

My pc is in a S340 case so isn't a huge problem. The issue I have is that the fans have a habit of pulsing if I don't use profiles. Which is bloody annoying having the hum sound constantly changing. Not sure why, but I assume something is buggered on the motherboard as the temps arnt really a problem. Wouldn't be the first thing to go wrong on the motherboard, poor thing is coming up for 7 years old.

Haven't worked out an alternative yet though.

The last time I bothered with a PC game was S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, about a year or so after it’s release.

After installing the game, i searched online on how to get it working. Then I downloaded and installed a massive patch that got the game working and fixed known bugs. Quite a lot of effort, to play a game.

Somewhere between 10 and 20 hours into the game, and thinking it was rather good, my PC was destroyed by a virus, requiring a complete re install of Windows.

The cause of the virus: I was waiting for a parcel to arrive from the US. An email arrived proclaiming to be from FedEx, and in my eager naivety, without checking the senders email address, downloaded the .pdf containing my parcel details, presumable a tracking number. It was a f*cking fake scamming c*nting email, that shafted my PC the moment I clicked on the download >8(

Stuck with Playstation ever since ;)

@1Million_Tons_of_TNT You could save yourself a lot of keystrokes if your username was Megaton.

iirc, when you click the install exe it unzips everything to the windows temp folder.
Their exe probably fucks up when it tries to determine what mobo you have, but if you copy what it put in the temp folder before you close the failed install, you can manually install from that folder.

What board do you have, mine is a mini-itx Z97.

Windows sucks because the hardware manufacturer stopped supporting their old hardware? Christ, if that's a case someone can make then I should have been on here years ago bleating on and on about how OSX sucks because none of the pre-OS9 hardware would work. At. All.
